Home-Start Guildford helps parents build better lives for their children. Trained volunteers provide practical and emotional support to parents with at least one child under 5, who are struggling and who may be suffering from post-natal depression, illness, disability, bereavement, isolation, multiple births... or just not coping. With your help, we can give parents the strength they need to do what has to be one of the toughest, but most rewarding jobs anyone can do. Samaritans is a confidential support service for anyone in the UK & Ireland. The service is available 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. Volunteers offer support by responding to phone calls, emails and SMS or you can drop into a Branch for a face-to-face meeting.
New Hope provides counselling for issues such as: anxiety, low mood, trauma, addictions and relationship problems. It is staffed by qualified therapists who give their time voluntarily. There is no discrimination on the grounds of gender ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
We provide childcare for children from the ages of 9 months to 11 years of age at current cost rate, with up to 15% of places offered at a subsidised rate so that we can support families in our local community for whom childcare would otherwise be inaccesible. We give special consideration to children: from single parent families, who have parents suffering for either mental and/or physical disabilities, who are referred to us from other agencies, from families experiencing emotional/stressful/abusive circumstances, whose social or intellectual development is delayed.
Speakeasy is a charity for people with Aphasia, a communication difficulty following a stroke or head injury. At Speakeasy Speech and language therapists and volunteers provide long term help and support. Speakeasy offers different activities for people to practice their communication, learn new skills and increase confidence.

The Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) provides pioneering faith and culturally sensitive services in the UK. Our core service is free and confidential support available nationally via telephone, email and internet. Male and female volunteers are trained in basic support skills to respond to clients on a wide-range of social issues.
BATIAS has been providing independent advocacy support for people with learning disabilities in South Essex for the past 20 years. Working to empower them to make informed choices, to speak out, to have their voices heard and their wishes and choices recognised. We also support people with physical and sensory impairments and mental health difficulties. BATIAS provides advocacy support in 4 different ways: Formal Advocacy Where a professional Advocate supports a client with a specific issue or concern. This is usually over a relatively short period of time. Citizen Advocacy Where a trained volunteer supports a client with social activities enabling them to have far greater access to the local community. It is a partnership that once established can last years, our longest is 20 years! Self Advocacy Where groups of clients get together on a regular basis either to provide each otherwith support or to focus on a particular subject such as health, finance, drama or sport. The groups are facilitated by a BATIAS advocate. Often our clients will use several of our services to help them.

We support people with ME, their families and their carers with practical support, self help, Tai Chi and outreach work

Ndi Moyo is a UK registered charity sponsoring Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust, which provides palliative care to alleviate the suffering of those who are chronically and terminally ill, bringing dignity and support to those who need it most. Ndi Moyo means - "The Place Giving Life". In Malawi, the challenge of HIV/AIDs is enormous, with almost 12% of the population (2007) living with the disease. Combined with an increasing incidence of HIV/AIDs related cancers and other associated illnesses, terrible suffering is being endured within communities. The Vineyard Community Centre provides help at a morning drop-in to those in crisis: whether by homelessness, addictions or those experiencing mental or social difficulty. In an afternoon cafe, open to all, there is support to those who feel lonely, isolated or socially excluded. For the youth there is an evening youth cafe, which hosts live music and entertainment, where young people can socialise responsibly, have fun and learn new skills.
Carers FIRST provides information, advice, support, advocacy and short breaks (respite) to carers in South West. We support all family/friend carers and have specialist projects for young carers, carers of those with additional mental health needs, and older carers of people with learning disabilities. We run adult Drop Ins in Edenbridge, West Malling and Cranbrook as well as the Tunbridge Wells Gateway Centre. We also run a Drop In for carers of people with additional mental health needs at Highlands House. We run young carer Drop Ins at Angley, Mascalls, Hayesbrook, Hillview, Skinners Kent Academy and the Weald schools. We also run young carer support groups in Edenbridge, Hawkhurst, Cranbrook, Sevenoaks, Southborough, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. In addition, Carers FIRST offers carer training. We are a host site for the Caring with Confidence sessions and offer emotional support groups. Support groups include parent carer groups such as our group for parents of children with autism and aspergers, a monthly group for carers of people with additional mental health needs and an adult carer support group that we run in partnership with the MS Society. We run a quarterly SAT group for older carers of older carers which meets at different restaurants throughout the area for a talk and a light lunch. We also partner with b-eat to run an eating disorder group and host "A Sigh of Relief" - a group for parents of children with autism and ADHD and similar behaviours. Our Respite service is offered in Swanley as well as South West Kent and our project for older carers of those with severe or profound learning difficulties is offered in Dartford and Gravesend in addition to South West Kent.
