The children we deal with may be in foster care, depressed to the point of suicide, living in an environment dominated by alcohol, violence or drugs, be caring for parents or siblings or come from very deprived backgrounds. In addition, being part of a group and sharing experiences helps the young carers realise that they are not alone and there are, in fact, thousands of other young carers out there.

(UK, 1102946) Browse eventsSeafarers, who are responsible for transporting 95% of the world's goods, are frequently overlooked and forgotten about. With the fast turnaround of ship in ports, being on board for 10 months, reduced crew numbers and increased workloads, the lives of seafarers are often tough and hard. Seafarers face long periods away from family and friends with limited or no communication for weeks on end. Shore leave can be severely restricted, particularly for certain nationalities. Welfare facilities and services both onboard and ashore can be a lifeline for seafarers. ISWAN works to support the welfare of seafarers all over the world. We work in support of organisations and bodies that provide direct welfare services to seafarers. We work to enable the establishment of welfare facilities and services in port and on ships. ISWAN also provides direct welfare services to seafarers. The 24 hour multilingual helpline, seafarerhelp, runs every day of the year and is free for seafarers to call from anywhere in the world. ISWAN also runs an emergency welfare fund for seafarers in dire need, produces health information for seafarers, and provides information on the location of seafarer centres.

(UK, 1118904) Browse eventsReflect is a free support service for men and women facing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy and for those who have experienced pregnancy loss. Our vision is to see women and men in York (and surrounding areas) enabled to make an informed decision about a crisis pregnancy without fear, pressure or judgment. Motivated by Christian compassion, we support people in this difficult situation through the decision-making process and beyond, whatever the outcome. We raise awareness of the issues surrounding pregnancy including: parenting, abortion, adoption, miscarriage, and infertility, and support those affected. Many people are affected by these difficulties - 1 in 3 women will have an abortion in their lifetime, more will have a crisis pregnancy and 1 in 4 early pregnancies end in miscarriage. There is a great need for our work and every penny really does count. "We can safely say that the day we found Reflect was the day that changed our lives forever. We have a better understanding of ourselves, each other and have gained skills that will enable us to be strong and deal with whatever other events life has in store for us." (A couple who completed our Journey Course for post-abortion recovery)
