Portsmouth Counselling Service is a locally based charity providing counselling support to people in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. The aim of the charity is to provide professionally affordable counselling to anyone in need of counselling, especially those in poverty or at risk of exclusion and whose lives are marginalised and outside mainstream. We are a multi-cultural service supporting and celebrating the diversity of clients accessing the service. The charity provided over 5000 hours of counselling in 2014. PCS is the only counselling service that provides long term counselling on an affordable fee basis. The issues dealt with in counselling may include relationship issues, bereavement, abuse, depression, anger, stress or disability. PCS receives funding to provide a free counselling service to Portsmouth residents for drug and alcohol issues. We also offer free counselling sessions to family members of substance misuse users and for witnesses and victims of domestic abuse.

Future Living Hertford was founded to fill a gap in the market in Hertfordshire for a non 12 step abstinence based addiction service that was free to access for all. We support clients in recovery from addictive behaviours and offer not only group therapy and one to one counselling but also skills training, volunteering and paid for work opportunities. Our staff are all volunteers, something rare in this day and age, and all qualified and committed to our work. We have psychologists, counsellors, therapists and great admin staff. Alongside this service we run a programme for female survivors of domestic abuse to support them in rebuilding their self esteem and lives.Our newest pilot programme is for young people between 14 and 19 years of age supporting them with drugs and alcohol issues and moving forward in life. Anyone can be struck down with illness. For some, however, illness becomes a life-long struggle which can result in losing a job, friends and a love of life. Blackthorn Garden is a community where by working together, one can find friends and security, learn new skills, feel valued and gain confidence to face the world at large. The Garden was founded in 1991 and has attracted strong support and funding from Socail Services and the NHS ever since. It also benefits from grants and donations from national and local charitable trusts, local businesses and individuals. Blackthorn Garden exists to assist individuals (known as co-workers) with a range of mental and physical health conditions, to build or gain confidence and self-esteem and to develop life and work skills. A varied and healthy work community is formed alongside staff and volunteers. The work undertaken in various workshops contributes to recovery and generates income to help sustain the work here. Standards are high, so many customers from the local community value the fruits of this labour. Working the land, living by the seasons, growing plants, preparing good food and serving others in a simple and light-filled environment or expressing their creativity through craft work, offer the conditions that encourage recovery. A respect for all that lives helps cultivate the healthy and responsive side of each person, however ill he or she might be. In such a climate, illness falls into the background and true character shows through, allowing the individual to embrace change and re-engage with the outside world. Our social enterprise activites consists of a Plant Nursery, Bakery, Vegetarian Cafe, Crafts, Woodwork, Herbs and Biodynamic Vegetable Garden.

Golden Oldies Launch appeal to stay open  Golden Oldies is a well-established charity that is small enough to reach deep into the community. This ensures  we are able to provide day care and support services to older people who are desperately in need of support. The Charity was receiving funding from Southwark council for many years but unfortunately due to their budget restraints and funding cuts. Golden Oldies is no longer in receipt of this funding stream. The charity has struggled to raise funds recently and is now at a point where closure is imminent if we are not able to secure funds soon.
