Kids & Us (UK, 1131626) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Kids & Us is a small charity based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which provides therapeutic counselling services for children and families across the North East of England. The areas we work in have very high numbers of lone-parents struggling to bring up a family, and unfortunately there are also very high instances of domestic violence, frequently witnessed by children. Our service is engaged either by other groups supporting the family, the child’s school or the family themselves. We offer a confidential, non judgmental, clinical assessment of the family’s needs, followed by a program of counselling for any members of the family who want and will benefit from it. We often see kids by themselves, but can see them in small groups, or as a family unit. What we do is very effective, and the benefits stay with the family for many years to come. Not all families are covered by the funding streams we have, because they attend the wrong school or have the wrong postcode, and money raised from sponsored events enables us to see some families that would otherwise fall through the net. Thank you for your support.

Neighbourhood Networks has been supporting vulnerable people since 2001. A charity based in Glasgow which supports vulnerable adults, many with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities and older people to live an independent life, safely, within their own homes and to be fully involved within their local communities. To this end we facilitate peer support networks amongst people who are otherwise socially isolated. Upskilling our members so they can help and support each other and be less reliant on paid support. We have 24 Networks supporting almost 200 members across Central Belt of Scotland. Each of our members are supported to develop their own personal plan which focuses on independent travel, money management, life skills as well as building friendships and relationships. Our members are encouraged to share their skills and offer support to other members within their own networks, as well as people in networks across the organisation. The outcomes for our members are a better quality of life: they are safer, stronger, more confident and able to live independently in their own homes. They will learn to travel independently. They are no longer isolated and lonely, and they themselves are sharing these new skills with the other members- skills such as cooking, safety at home along with offering guidance around the dangers of the internet. Our members are reaching out and offering the chance of friendships and companionship to other vulnerable groups around them. Together, we hope to break down barriers which often exist for people with disabilities. We hope to inspire people, create a feeling of acceptance and belonging, a sense of neighbourly involvement and to re energise neighbourly connections.
