'Home-Start North Down reaches out to over 100 local families every year - recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home. We support families who are struggling to cope because of illness, isolation, mental health, lone parenting, bereavement, domestic violence, disability, multiple birth or multiple children under school age. Home-Start North Down’s work is simple, cost effective and it works. As one of our parents put it, ‘...you have given me friendship, help, advice and the support I really needed. Before Home-Start my life was in turmoil. I suffered from depression, low self-esteem, no confidence and I felt isolated ….. I had hit rock bottom. Home-Start helped kick-start the beginnings of a new chapter in my life’
ActivLives is a small, grassroots charity, working in Ipswich and across Suffolk, to support and motivate people to improve their own health and well-being; keep people connected with their communities to reduce social isolation and loneliness and provide access to learning, training and volunteering opportunities to enable people to gain skills and employment. ActivLives provides a wide range of opportunities for people to get involved, including, community gardening, Men in Shed projects, singing and physical / sport activities such as walking football, Boccia, Kurling, seated and standing exercise, health walks and social activity. These activities bring people together to enable them to meet and make new friends, build support networks in the community and learn and share skills. Our activities help to build confidence and self-esteem, maintain good physical and mental health, reducing stress and preventing the onset of depression and anxiety. Our members value being able to speak to staff and volunteers about issues and problems and if we can’t help ourselves, then we signpost people to other support networks, quickly and efficiently or introduce people to local services, projects and leisure facilities.

Community Network is committed to combating the devastating effects loneliness and social isolation have on health and well-being. We do this by bringing people together in groups on the phone to create Telephone Communities, allowing people to actively participate and discuss the matters that mean the most to them and most importantly have the vital human contact that many of us take for granted. We are helped by volunteers who give their time and their skills and we keep our costs as low as possible. However, we need your help connect up more isolated people through our Telephone Communities. £8 can help a lonely, housebound person connect with others through a Telephone Community group. £60 can connect up 6 people for an hour reducing their loneliness. £140 can train a volunteer Facilitator to lead Telephone Community groups, improving health, wellbeing and reducing feelings of loneliness. £10 helps to pay our necessary running costs such as rent, postage, salaries. Any gift, however big or small, you can give will go to making a difference to the life of a person who might otherwise be feeling alone, depressed or isolated. Thank you.
