Chukwu Trust (UK, SC035651) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Chukwu Trust is founded on the principle that when people have nothing, even the smallest donation can transform lives. It aims to give people in Africa the basics to start a new education, a new job, a new life and build a future for themselves and their families. We do not aim to fund people on an ongoing basis, but instead to provide the crucial capital that will enable them to support themselves. This is done through direct donations to individuals, so not only is the gift completely transparent but the results can be seen immediately. Many of the people who require assistance have had their lives brutally transformed by tragic events, most commonly the loss of the breadwinner in the family through accidents or sickness. Countries, such as Nigeria where we work, do not have a welfare state. The only form of assistance is provided by the family network. When this breaks down, those left behind have nothing to fall back on, bringing severe suffering to the families involved.

Younger People With Dementia Berkshire West (UK, 1147290) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

We are a charity registered in 2012 to support people in the west of Berkshire who develop dementia under the age of 65. It is estimated that the incidence of dementia in this age group is one in every thousand – which, at this time, equates to around 240 people in West Berkshire alone – many of whom are unknown to local service providers. The needs of younger people with dementia (under 65 years of age) and their carers differ greatly from older people as the pattern, progression and burden of illness are all different, which is where we come in. We have an innovative approach to respite care.  As well as our one to one service, we run a series of age appropriate workshops which offer meaningful activity.  Each session or workshop is tailor-made to the individuals who attend and this enables people to continue to enjoy participating in activities and being involved in the community. A choir was established in September 2012 which meets weekly.  There have been several concerts which have been much enjoyed both by choir members and audience. The workshops run on a rolling programme of 6-8 weeks to try to accommodate everybody's interests.  They have included physical activities such as dancing, running and katacanoeing as well as gardening, photography and local history. We try to be flexible in how we use our resources, continuing to listen to clients and their families, and at the same time not duplicating services which are already provided on a statutory basis. Our longer term aim is to be able to fund a resource which will provide respite care on both a short and longer term basis. Thank you for taking the time to look at our page.  We appreciate your support.
