Swaziland recently surpassed Botswana as the country with the world's highest known rate of HIV/AIDS infection - 42% of the 958,000 population. The average life expectancy is a lowly 32 and 31% of all youth are orphans & vulnerable children. It is projected that without bold action these frightening statistics will worsen by up to 25% in 2010. Lesotho has the third highest incidence of HIV/AID's. In Kenya, we will raise awareness of the HIV/AID's pandemic and also educate young Kenyans on inter tribal tolerance.

Originally known as Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind (GCAB), the charity was set up in 1858 to help those with failing eyesight. Records indicate that by 1922, the number being cared for was around 600 people. Today, this local charity provides information and support for over 3000 people with significant sight loss. Unfortunately, there is every indication that, due to an ageing population, these numbers will continue to increase year on year. It is predicted that by 2050, the number of people with sight loss in the UK will be nearly 4 million. Every day, 100 people in the UK start losing their sight. Our Aims To support people with significant sight loss in Gloucestershire so they can continue to enjoy their lives and retain their independence. Our aim is to raise awareness of Type 2 Diabetes and to raise vital funding for The Michael Clements Diabetes Centre at Watford General Hospital. Michael Green was a kind and loving husband, father and friend to all, greeting everyone with his smile and warmth. It was devastating for his family and friends when he died, but through this charity, we can prevent others from suffering the same loss and thus create something good from something so tragic. With the first £10k that was raised, we built an educational dietetic kitchen at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital as a resource for current diabetes patients and others within our community. Our next major projects include: • providing specialist nurse training at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital • providing more specialst equipment for the diabetes centre. We are also in the early stages of producing a recipe book, with dishes that have been specially donated from well-known chefs, with a focus on health and diabetic-friendly foods. The book will also have useful information about diabetes, with some personal accounts from those who have lived with, and reversed their diabetic conditions...truly remarkable accounts! There are many other events planned for the coming months so please check back here regularly to see what's happening.
