We provide services to any person suffering from any form of sight condition, whether or not they are formally registered blind or partially sighted. We have Community Workers who visit members in their homes and whose role is to help them continue to enjoy a life living as independently as possible. In addition, we run social groups that meet monthly at several venues in our district and also publish two substantial newsletters each year sent to all of our members. The limited social and health services available in Zambia are submerged, cemeteries are overcrowded the funerals are a daily part of life.Thousands of orphans are left to a diminishing number of carers with an increasing number of child headed families. Already struggling families who are under great pressure are having to take in relatives’ orphans, some grandmothers having to care for all their grandchildren with no means to sustain them.Consequently child abuse and neglect is increasingly common in Zambia and despair and destitution is a hallmark of many communities.
