The East Sussex Association of Blind and Partially Sighted People (ESAB) works with over 1,700 local people who are blind or partially sighted. We offer clients information, training and support. We want our clients to have the same opportunities as sighted people, to be more confident and knowledgeable and have increased choice and control in their lives. We also deliver vision awareness training for carers, local businesses and community groups. This helps the wider community understand how they can help people with a visual impairment to overcome some of the problems they face. There are many different causes of blindness and people experience their sight loss in different ways. This is why ESAB focuses on individuals and develops a Seeing the Future plan with each client to identify their aims and how we can support them to achieve these. Many of ESAB’s clients are over the age of 65 but we are working with increasing numbers of younger people.

The Playhouse Foundation provides young children with autism the opportunity to have an educational home programme (Applied Behavioural Analysis) in the critical early years, which will support individual needs but without placing the entire financial burden on their families. We provide bursaries for children with autism between the ages of 2.5 - 3.5 years old within Hampshire to participate in an ABA programme. Funds are offered to means tested families and each bursary provides the financial support to staff a consultant and a team of tutors throughout the first year. Through early intervention, our aim is to provide young children with autism the opportunity to have a highly effective tailor-made programme, which uses techniques and principles to bring about meaningful and positive changes in behaviour. They will acquire the skills to improve their functional daily living and communication, play and social interaction, and allow them access to the most appropriate school setting with provision to best match their needs.
Did you know that every hour another person goes blind, and the impact on their life will be fundamental. Living Paintings is there to help alleviate the isolation, both social and educational, that these people will suffer. We help blind and partially sighted people get more out of life.
FunsaniKids4Kids is a registered charity that supports orphaned and vulnerable children in Kitwe, Northern Zambia, one the most impoverished developing nations on the planet. In 2002, Funsani Home was founded as an orphange, which currently supports and cares for 11 children who live there permanently on a full time basis. Most of them have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and are in desperate need of love, care and support. Despite the often tragic circumstances which led to them entering the home, the home has provided the children with a stable environment to learn, grow and play. There is a clear mother and father figure and the children consider themselves brothers and sisters. This tight-knit family feel has allowed the children to thrive. More info on the home, the children and the work we do is available on our website www.funsanikids4kids.org

In March 2012 Charlie Codling was suddenly diagnosed with a Difuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an incurable brain tumour. Devastatingly after only 5 months, Charlie passed away on 6 September 2012, just 2 weeks before his 5th birthday. Inspired by Charlie’s love for life, strength, humour and caring nature, Charlie’s Mum and Dad, Karen and Steve were able to ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’ which they have adopted as their family motto and started the charity: Charlie’s Beach Hut. Charlie’s, is a beach hut style caravan at Perran Sands in Perranporth which aims to provide families of children with life limiting illnesses and families of Fire-Fighters that have suffered bereavement, or life changing injury whilst in the line of duty, a relaxing environment so they can forge some forever memories, in a hope that they can ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’. You can read more about Charlie’s incredible journey at: www.charliecodling.co.uk or email Karen and Steve at: [email protected] The UK Charity Commission legal statement is: Charlie's Beach Hut Charity has been set up to relieve the needs of families and carers who have children with life threatening or terminal illnesses or have lost children to cancer; or to families of fire-fighters that have suffered life limiting injuries or bereavement whilst in the line of duty by the provision of a "Beach Hut" holiday home in Perranporth, Cornwall. We hope that families will be able to 'find the wonderful in today' and build some treasured memories at Charlies Beach Hut.
