There are 15.6 million people worldwide living with the consequences of rheumatic heart disease. Most of these people live in areas with severe social and economic challenges. The effects of rheumatic heart disease are severe and include: The tragedy is that with early detection and proper treatment many of these devastating complications can be prevented. Early detection is best provided by ultrasound of the heart (echocardiography). Our volunteers will travel to Cape Town where they will screen school students from rural communities for signs of early stage rheumatic heart disease. Aftercare and treatment will be managed by the team at Tygerberg Hospital. Echo in Africa is the humanitarian project of the British Society of Echocardiography. We are grateful for the support of our volunteers, supporters and fundraisers.
40tude curing colon cancer

Since it was founded in 2011, 40tude has raised over £700,000 for St. Mark’s Hospital Foundation, supporting the development of pioneering techniques to treat colon cancer. So far 40tude has successfully sponsored the FLEX project - a new surgical technique to remove colon cancer. We are now supporting the Artificial Bowel Project, a programme to engineer new bowel tissue from patient's own stem cells and have begun funding the PERFECTS programme: to improve and monitor the quality of CT colonographies across the NHS. She went from being a happy, healthy school girl to passing away within 3 weeks. The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust for research into rare solid tumours of childhood, including malignant rhabdoid tumours is working to provide grants and funding for research into these tumours. We are also working to improve awareness of childhood cancer and the symptoms children may present with. Childhood cancer affects 1 in every 285 children before their 20th birthday. It is also the biggest medical cause of death of children in the UK. Despite this fact, research is massively underfunded. We are fighting to change this. We are working to save lives to fulfill Grace's wish of helping others.

YTD Raised: £7,572.53In May 2015 Hannah Francis was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer. At the time Hannah was 17 years old and intent on pursuing her dream of riding at the top level of eventing. The diagnosis initially gave some hope with extensive use of chemotherapy, but, as Hannah says “now we know it is more likely to be a case of keeping on dreaming big, fighting hard and never, ever giving up – no matter what this evil disease continues to throw at us”. In the last year she has turned her overwhelming determination to, as she puts it, “#kickingcancersbutt” and inspiring people with her drive and determination. But she doesn’t do it alone. Shortly after her diagnosis Hannah was given a stuffed toy pony, to become known as Willberry the Wonder Pony. Now Hannah and Willberry devote much of their time and energy to raising money for charity and what started as a local effort to raise funds to buy Hannah a decent wig after losing her hair, is now a formal charity – Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony Charity – established and driven by Hannah to raise funds for bone cancer research and to grant equine related wishes to seriously ill people and their families. And she says that, long term, the charity will be her legacy, “Even when the day comes that I won’t be able to get up in the morning I want you to continue to keep fighting for me so together we can beat cancer.”

Our aim is to help fill the gaps in the support that he received, that his fiancee, friends and family recognised during his battle. Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the supporting or connective tissues of the body such as muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, blood vessels and fat. The Boom Foundation aims to raise public awareness and funds, of which 50% will go towards support initiatives in Northern Ireland including a new sarcoma support group for patients and families and financial grants for individuals and families. The other 50% will go to Sarcoma UK to support its nationally-focused work to improve standards of treatment and care for patients in the UK and to fund vital research.
