The University of Manchester has a rich and proud heritage dating back to 1824. We are the birthplace of many discoveries which have had a major impact on society, including the development of the first modern computer, the splitting of the atom by Rutherford, the first degree in nursing, and the birth of modern economics and medical ethics. Our history is closely intertwined with the visionary philanthropists who made our existence possible, and now your support can make a difference to students and researchers, on campus and beyond, every day. You can ensure that talented students can have a Manchester education, regardless of their background. You can accelerate research into some of the greatest issues facing our society today, including preventing disease, alleviating poverty and solving the looming energy crisis. By choosing to support one of our priority areas, you can make your impact on our students, communities and economy, ensuring that the fruits of scholarship resonate throughout society. Inspired by Erin (UK, 1160659) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

Erin Bates was 11 years old when she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Following treatment it appeared that she was beating the disease and tried to get back into playing football, with her team Washington AFC u12 Wildcats, which she enjoyed before she became ill. She found it difficult with her obvious physical and mental frailties. Unfortunately Erin passed away in July 2014 and as part of her legacy her family and friends initially raised around £17000 for local and national children's cancer charities. In October 2014 we decided to set up our own charity to help children in Erin's situation to return to sport and physical activity in an environment suitable for their needs to promote and improve their physical and mental health. Thank you for visiting our page.

Hadassah UK (UK, 1040848) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

MORE MILES, MORE SPONSORSHIP, MORE MS RESEARCH, MORE CHANGE WHY HADASSAH M.S. RESEARCH? I’m taking on this extraordinary challenge to run 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days in May to raise funds for Hadassah Medical Organisation’s cutting-edge research into Multiple Sclerosis for many reasons. I know people with the disease, I work at Hadassah which delivers 50% of all clinical research undertaken in Israel. Consequently I am now aware of the incredible treatments currently being researched and stem cell trials being carried out at Hadassah which can make a real difference to M.S. sufferers everywhere. In stem cell research, there are great benefits offered for other degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Dementia & ALS, but MS stem cell work ticks all the four areas of being suitable for these illnesses as well. In Parkinson’s disease Hadassah has already developed other techniques such as “Deep Brain Stimulation". The MS research has already shown a major impact in ALS, (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). This currently has a 0% chance of recovery, but results from Hadassah’s work show a significant measurable improvement in a 6 out of 7 patient trial with this bone marrow stem cell treatment. This is unprecedented. We are highlighting cutting edged research and clinical trials on Multiple Sclerosis which can have an immediate impact. It seems fitting that a disease like M.S. that restricts movement could have donations raised for it by an ordinary person like me, running and moving excessively. Pushing myself to run these marathons with their peaks and troughs will not be automatic, there will be an awareness of pain, a daily acknowledgment of the body’s failings and graces. By joining with me to support Hadassah Hospital’s vital research into Multiple Sclerosis in 2015, we can raise funds for further trials to include more patients widening the reach of MS treatment. Please join and help us by donating! Through medicine, Hadassah in Jerusalem serves as an example and a “bridge to peace” treating all patients regardless of religion, nationality or politics.

Airway Stenosis Patients Association (UK, EW05886) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

ASPA is a charity dedicated to those who suffer from this rare and debilitating condition of a narrowed airway (trachea). It affects people of all ages, and the reason why isn't always known. Airway stenosis is often mis-diagnosed as asthma, and we aim to raise awareness of this so that this happens less often. Airway stenosis (narrowing) feels like being made to breathe through a straw, permenantly. It is a terrifying condition, and although rare, over 300 new cases are diagnosed each year. There are surgical options available to patients who can afford it, but this does not provide a guaranteed success rate - and surgeries are often multiple.  Your donation will go directly towards helping patients of all ages, providing support and practical help wherever possible. Thank you.
