(UK, 1131562) Browse eventsCancer already causes more deaths each year worldwide than HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria combined. By 2020 there are expected to be 16 million new cases of cancer every year, 70 per cent of which will be in developing countries, which are least prepared to address the growing cancer burden. THE TIME TO TAKE ACTION IS NOW. African countries are the least able of all developing countries to cope, having few cancer care services. Lack of resources and basic infrastructure mean that most Africans have no access to cancer screening, early diagnosis, treatment or palliative care. Consequently a diagnosis of cancer leads, in most cases, to a painful and distressing death. AfrOx is currently working on a range of programmes in Ghana. Our programme priorities in Ghana include: - Support for national cancer care planning. - Provision of training and education for healthcare staff. - Improvement in palliative care. - The early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. - Raising public awareness of the early signs of cancer and methods of cancer prevention. For more information about our work, please visit our website: www.afrox.org AfrOx believes that by forging alliances of individuals, NGOs and governments to share expertise, technology, training and a degree of philanthropic support, much could be done to help reduce global disparities in cancer care. We hope that you will work together with us to achieve this goal.

(UK, 1144642) Browse eventsSupporting people of all ages suffering from Cancer in the New Addington and surrounding areas The Charity was inspired by former Mayor of Croydon and New Addington Councillor Brenda Kirby MBE, who suffered from incurable brain and lung cancer. Brenda's battle against cancer was finally lost in September 2013. While she discovered the range of facilities on offer in Purley, Brenda also realised there was nothing like it in New Addington. It is difficult to get to Purley from New Addington, particularly by public transport and therefore this charity was set up in order that an extra centre in New Addington could be established. This is important because people suffering from cancer have found travelling from New Addington by public transport tiring, difficult and expensive.
