Additionally, it raises funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK in aid of breast cancer, allowing audiences to enjoy its concerts whilst supporting an exceptionally worthwhile cause.

What is muscle disease?Muscle disease causes muscles to waste and weaken, making it hard for those affected to do even the simplest task. It doesn’t just affect the muscles in the arms and legs but the heart and respiratory muscles too. Muscle disease is life-limiting and incurable. Who is Murrays Muscles?Our son Murray was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2005. Since then, along with family and special friends we have formed a charity, based in Worcestershire aimed at benefiting patients suffering from muscular dystrophy and related diseases across the West Midlands Region. What do we do? We work on several levels aiming to relieve sickness, preserve and protect the health of patients within our patient group by: We help to lead the fight against muscle disease in the UK.

Our trustees are a unique blend of 5 patients, 2 consultants and our very own angel disguised as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, this mix ensures we are at the front line and have resources in people to offer support pre, during and post treatment for patients and their families. Everyone involved with the charity are volunteers and our administrative costs are minimal to ensure the maximum funds are used for our aims as below. The charity’s aims are: To provide welfare and advice to patients and carers, To provide support by establishing, running and maintaining patient support groups, and by new patients being able to have contact with experienced patients pre, during and post treatment, To raise awareness to ensure early diagnosis, To assist with research funding of OG cancer, To fund equipment and other items that directly benefits patients and which are not normally provided by other sources, To raise funds in order to achieve our aims. We work closely with the Regional OG Unit based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and we have full support from the OG clinical specialist team of consultants, nurses and dieticians. The Guildford OG patient support group was started up in 2007 and now meets monthly, we welcome patients and their families to attend at any meeting. The group has full support from the clinical team who attend meetings and often do a presentation to the group. We are also here to help transplant patients in the area. The unit at Calow has 12 beds and is very well looked after by the Sheffield Kidney Institute at the Northern General Hospital. Our association is run by kidney patients, carers and friends who want to help make a difference. We are a small group who try to be there when needed.
