Her Centre... Empowering women to move forward with their lives. Established in 1997, Her Centre supports over 1000 women a year who live, study or work in Greenwich. We provide free and confidential advocacy, counselling, outreach, advice and training to women of all ages and backgrounds. Our team of Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) are accredited as a CAADA Leading Light, which demonstrates the high standard of specialist support they provide to women who have survived domestic abuse & violence, rape & sexual abuse and teen relationship abuse. As well as this, our team also helps local women with legal issues, benefits, health, education, employment & volunteering, language skills, immigration (with signposting to specialists) and emergency housing (relating to domestic abuse). We greatly appreciate donations from individuals to help us continue our work. £5 buys materials for one of our English language classes helping to reduce isolation for women from minority ethnic communities. £10 pays for a woman to attend one of our confidence building sessions that help women feel better about themselves, be strong to move on from an abusive relationship. £20 provides an emergency phone for an abused woman whose phone has been submitted as police evidence. £30 pays for a woman’s placement on skilled training such as food and hygiene qualification, so that she is qualified to go into catering work. £40 funds an in-depth safety plan for a woman who has experienced domestic violence. £50 funds support to a woman who is facing loss of housing, by negotiating with her landlord an affordable repayment of rent. £100 funds specialist in-court support for a victim of abuse, seven hours of risk assessment work for women experiencing domestic abuse, or a day working in the police station providing support to women who report being raped or beaten.

New Bridge creates links between the offender and the community. We befriend prisoners and provide mentors to help maintain a crime free life on release. New Bridge trains volunteers to befriend and encourage prisoners.  Many feel lonely, cut off, angry or depressed and want a listening ear, a non judgemental mind with which to engage or just news of the outside world.  We run a mentoring project based in the Merseyside area. In London, New Bridge runs London Through The Gate a befriending service aimed at short term prisoners, many of whom have led chaotic lives with frequent spells in custody.  Volunteers work in pairs to help offenders make the right choices about their lifestyle that prevent a return to prison. Your generous donation will help us maintain and develop our befriending and mentoring services so that more prisoners are given a greater chance of a positive, crime free life.
