(UK, 1098726) Browse eventsOur aim is to protect, support and inform women and their children of all ages and ethnicity from domestic abuse leading to a greater safety in their lives and in the community. We provide accomodation for up to twelve women and their children in our two refuges with key workers supporting every woman and child. We also have a dedicated children’s service for the children in the refuge with Child Support Workers using play therapy to support these children through what is a very difficult and challenging time. We run various groups in the community including the 'Freedom Programme' which is an informative, interactive course aimed at women that have or are experiencing domestic violence. Women can join at any time during the twelve week cycle. It provides an opportunity for women to learn how to identify abuse and to live free from harm. The next step on from this is 'Stay Free' programme which helps survivors of domestic abuse and have broken free from an abusive relationship to find ways to maintain that freedom. Following on from that we also run the 'Recovery Toolkit' which helps to look at self esteem and assertiveness within each woman. For children and young people we offer the 'Meaningful Relationships' programme, which focuses on what is and is not acceptable in a relationship and to build confidence.

We provide free and confidential advocacy, counselling, outreach, advice and training to women of all ages and backgrounds. Our team of Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) are accredited as a CAADA Leading Light, which demonstrates the high standard of specialist support they provide to women who have survived domestic abuse & violence, rape & sexual abuse and teen relationship abuse. As well as this, our team also helps local women with legal issues, benefits, health, education, employment & volunteering, language skills, immigration (with signposting to specialists) and emergency housing (relating to domestic abuse). We greatly appreciate donations from individuals to help us continue our work. £5 buys materials for one of our English language classes helping to reduce isolation for women from minority ethnic communities. £10 pays for a woman to attend one of our confidence building sessions that help women feel better about themselves, be strong to move on from an abusive relationship. £20 provides an emergency phone for an abused woman whose phone has been submitted as police evidence. £30 pays for a woman’s placement on skilled training such as food and hygiene qualification, so that she is qualified to go into catering work. £40 funds an in-depth safety plan for a woman who has experienced domestic violence. £50 funds support to a woman who is facing loss of housing, by negotiating with her landlord an affordable repayment of rent. £100 funds specialist in-court support for a victim of abuse, seven hours of risk assessment work for women experiencing domestic abuse, or a day working in the police station providing support to women who report being raped or beaten.
