The Children of Sumatra was set up with the aim of helping children suffering from cleft lip and palate living on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Many families there are too poor to pay for a simple operation that can transform their child’s future. In Europe and America we are almost unaware of this condition as it is corrected within the first year of a child’s life but in Indonesia this is not the case and the condition affects 1 in 500 children. Just £200 can pay for a simple cleft operation that can change a childs life for ever. Thank you for visiting our page.

Empire Fighting Chance was launched in October 2013 based at the Empire Boxing Gym in the Easton & St Pauls districts, which are amongst the most disadvantaged areas of Bristol, and working with local schools and the police, EFC helps children who are failing at school and in danger of drifting into a life of unemployment or even crime, and helps them turn their lives around. We run programmes covering fitness and health, remedial work on numeracy and literacy, and preparation for employment, as well as providing mentoring and counselling for young people who often have very troubled backgrounds. Working with us does not encourage violence, instead it diverts physical energy into a suitable, controlled context, governed by rules and responsible behaviour. Skill, self-confidence and achievement begin to replace fear and aggression in their daily life. At any one time we work with around 200 children aged 9 to 18, 47.3% are from the BME community. Our programmes aim to instill discipline, self-control, and respect, whilst building self-confidence, life skills, and health and fitness. We get them back into education, or work ready, and steer them away from crime and alcohol or drug abuse. The “street credibility” the gym enjoys means that it can reach the toughest of young people, but it is not really about boxing, the physical work is non-contact, using punch bags, skipping, technique and movement to promote physical and mental well being.

Odanadi UK: Who we are Odanadi UK was set in 2008 by a group of British volunteers with a common interest in working together to combat human trafficking. Since our inception, we have successfully raised funds and awareness for our partner organisation in India and we are now proud to contribute 30% of Odanadi’s core running costs. In addition to our ever-expanding raft of UK activities, we also offer strategic and capacity building support to our sister organisation. Odanadi India: Fighting human trafficking, violence and exploitation Odanadi’s vision is to create a peoples’ movement against gender discrimination and human trafficking, and also works to combat social injustice more generally. Odanadi is a small organisation based in Mysore, southern India. Since the early 1990s, Odanadi has worked tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate individuals who have been trafficked, prostituted, enslaved or abused. Odanadi offers them a home, counselling, an education and career opportunities, in addition to assisting with prosecutions against traffickers and advocating to law enforcement. But it doesnt stop there: Odanadi’s grassroots education, awareness and empowerment programmes prevent trafficking in some of the regions most at-risk communities. Every day in India, young people are lured away from their homes by criminal trafficking networks. In the hands of traffickers, children are sold, exploited and robbed of their childhoods. Many will end up on the brothels, on the streets and living on the margins of society. Over the past 20 years Odanadi has rescued more than 2,000 men, women and children; carried out over 60 raids and brought more than 137 traffickers to justice.
