(UK, 294363) Browse eventsGetting out of the school or the town to learn is a rare treat, bringing both children and adults closer to the natural world and the place where their food comes from. Seeing a lamb being born, finding a tadpole in the pond or walking across the middle of a 25 acre field of wheat are special experiences for many children, enabling them to learn, just as much as spending a day measuring the flow and depth of the River Pang, or discovering the effect of soil type on plant growth. The John Simonds Trust is designed to welcome people to Rushall Farm, and to teach about the countryside. The educational charity was set up over 25 years ago to enable people to enjoy the countryside at Rushall Farm, and to learn about farming. All visits and camps are subsidized by 50%, and children who are unable to pay are equally welcome.

FINANCIAL NEEDSouth Street Baptist Church has a heart for people and expresses God’s love by providing relevant services that benefit our community in Greenwich and beyond. Our current financial priority is to raise £350,000 for the installation of stepped and ramped access to front and side of Church. This will include a disabled toilet, lift and facilities to aid the mobility of elderly and families with young children into and within the building. We aim to get all the works completed by autumn 2016. With Step-free access, we will be able to extend our services mentioned above and more to everyone safely. The church is currently committed to raise £70,000 from our members. However, we will need the support of a wider community to be able to undertake this project. We are therefore appealing to donors and friends of SSBC to help us raise the remaining amount to meet our financial target.A short video with more details:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kCYQexkaYI Charity No: 53267 Find out more Website http://southstreetchurch.org.uk/ Facebook Please click here to visit our Facebook page Twitter Please click here to visit our Twitter page

(UK, 1152338) Browse eventsHampers of Hope is a Christian charity for the relief of poverty through the provision of emergency food support and practical help to restore dignity and revive hope in North-East Cheshire. Through our foodbank, we provide 3-5 day food hampers to people and families in crisis who are referred to us by front-line care workers and professionals. Hampers of Hope is one of a small number of foodbanks given references direct from Cheshire East Council where they identify families in need. Food hampers are given without prejudice or judgement to men women and children for a limited period in order to assist them in dealing with the crisis. Over 60% of those we help are children. We believe passionately that our foodbank must be about much more than applying a sticking plaster to a problem. If there is no food on the table, it is usually a symptom of a more fundamental issue in the household. Our volunteers are trained to build relationships with the people that they visit. It provides the opportunity to discern what further support may be needed in order to raise people out of poverty, restore their dignity and enable them get out of their crisis. Hampers of Hope therefore provides a number of additional services. We are able to provide one-off “gifts of kindness”. These may not be expensive but can make a massive difference at a time of crisis. This can range from providing the correct baby milk and nappies to supplying a cooker or freezer. Hampers of Hope now offers, in conjunction with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), money management courses. These take place in local children’s centres and churches and are led by a qualified money coach. We have recently extended our services further by offering job clubs to support those seeking employment. These services are all part of our aim which is not only to provide emergency food support but to relieve poverty in North East Cheshire.

In Leeds many churches have seen that need and have come together to serve our city. Leeds Foodbank supports people by providing emergency food, and signposting them to other support such as debt advice services and job clubs, to help them through their food crisis. We do this through a network of food distribution centres based in local churches and community centres throughout Leeds. Each distribution centre is linked to one of our four Trussell Trust Licensed foodbanks: Leeds North; Leeds South; Leeds West and Leeds East.
