The Foundation For Cambodian Children (UK, 1130463) Browse events

YTD Raised: £1,032.00

We are the registered UK charity set up to support KaisKids projects in Cambodia.  These projects  include Kais Village Community & Romdoul Thmei Rural School in Kampong Speu as well as an outreach project in Kampot providing a day care centre and fostercare programme for children affected by HIV as well as  community education at Boeung Tapream Rural School on Fish Isle.  KaisKids was established in 2001 in the village of Kompong, Thom Province in Cambodia in response to the plight of the area’s homeless children and needy families  Kais Village Community was founded in an old farmhouse in Kompong in 2001. It was refurbished for 20 children and staff in Treng Trayoeung village on 7 hectares of land and today it has grown to a thriving community of modern buildings with over 50 children and comprises a school, a nursery for the youngest children, accommodation for the older children, a large kitchen & dining room and a medical centre. It is set on a working farm, which contributes substantially to the community’s needs KaisKids also provides outreach and support to the local HIV communities and work on sustainable farming.   Cambodia has transformed in remarkable ways in recent years after decades of conflict and KaisKids has contributed to the reduction in child mortality and child malnutrition rates but it remains a low-income, food-deficit country where nearly a third of the rural population lives below the poverty line. Nearly a quarter of all Cambodians are food-deprived and the health of young children and their families is still just as important Children make up more than half of Cambodia’s population of 14 million so please support KaisKids to help the children of Cambodia build a brighter future  We rely solely on the generosity of our donors to help us change the lives of the children in our care so every donation is highly appreciated and goes directly to assist KaisKids

St Joseph and the Helpers Charity UK Ltd (UK, SC036163) Browse events

YTD Raised: £1,020.00

Our mission is to help the people of Bosnia Herzegovina as they struggle to recover from the Yugoslav wars of 1992 - 1995. We aim to relieve poverty and advance education whilst respecting varying religions and cultures. We support orphanages and families living in dire need.  Currently we are funding four young people in higher education and want to set up scholarships for orphans. With the help of our generous donors, we have found funds to build a Public Kitchen in Sarajevo where over 300 free meals are provided every day.   We have built a kindergarten for over 100 under 6s and a nursing home for 30+ elderly people, many of whom had lived in a refugee camp where they had to queue for water, food and toilet facilities.  We also built a community centre called St Joseph's Hall in the grounds of Mothers Village Orphanage.  We have worked with the Mayor of Tomislavgrad to build a School and Respite Centre for children and young people with Special Needs.  It can accommodate 40 and provides jobs for the teachers which is a blessing in a country with over 50% unemployment. Only the poorest of the poor receive a welfare payment of 40 euros a month. Every penny we receive in donations reaches the projects as the directors of this charity personally cover all administration costs. 100% of your giving works!

Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund (UK, 1004630) Browse events

YTD Raised: £768.46

Surviving Winter is a UK-wide co-ordinated campaign to encourage people to make donations to help older and vulnerable people affected by fuel poverty this winter. The campaign was inspired by people who wanted to recycle their Winter Fuel Payment to support older and vulnerable people who are less fortunate than themselves. Community foundations all over the UK are co-ordinating the campaign.  What they collect, thanks to the generosity of the British public, will be targeted directly to help those locally who struggle to stay safe through the winter. Why we need this appeal With rising fuel bills and the prospect of another cold winter, older and vulnerable people are at risk.  5.4 million households in the UK are currently living in fuel poverty, with almost half of these households aged over 60. Each year around 20,000 more people aged 65 or over die in winter months than in other months of the year.  With colder winters and rising energy prices, households are reporting increasing difficulties paying their fuel bills. This leads to households making difficult choices about prioritising their expenditure with some foregoing other essentials such as food to pay for fuel and some cutting back or turning off the heating altogether. Cold weather exacerbates coronary and respiratory illnesses, illnesses associated with older people. For every winter-related death there will be dozens of people suffering illness and hardship. Choice between eating and heating, isolation and depression are all factors. Results and outcomes All of the money raised will be used to provide direct benefit to older and vulnerable people who are suffering because of fuel poverty. The money will support those most in need of help and make sure they can afford to stay warm, eat well and remain mobile, as well as help them in practical ways such as ensuring they can make doctor’s appointments, get to the shops, and maintain an active social life.
