QK House (UK, 1141257) Browse events

YTD Raised: £0.00

QK House is a Charity founded by Headteacher of Quintin Kynaston School, Jo Shuter CBE and her deputy, Irene Forster. QK House will provide a safe, stable and focused environment for Sixth Form students who find themselves in a situation that forces them to become homeless. QK House has identified a group of students within Quintin Kynaston School who are studying for their AS-Levels and A-Levels who have been left without a home for varying difficult reasons.  These students are currently living in ‘sheltered accommodation’ and report to a ‘key-worker’ every week to discuss their progress.  This group number between 6-10 students through the course of the academic year. QK House aims to provide accommodation specifically for these vulnerable students who wish to continue their education beyond compulsory levels.  The house will provide a temporary housing solution to the young people’s problems whilst they are studying during this critical, pre-university and life-defining time.   The key overall vision for the project is one whereby QK House will mirror as closely as is possible a family environment.  Additional support will be integrated into the holistic network of support provision from QK School further enforcing the family support ethic.   QK House is a preventative measure against young people going into care. QK House would be the final stage before the young people are placed into care. The house would provide the students with a stable environment in which they can complete their studies and also receive support from the school and from council support services. Aside from the obvious individual and wider social benefits there are clear financial benefits of avoiding the said young people being placed into care.
