(UK, 246871B) EU Welcome exists to provide help and support to migrants in the Southampton area from EU and other European countries. We seek to empower our clients to to overcome the challenges of living in a foreign country, by promoting the learning of English and the understanding of British culture. We are prepared to try to offer help in any area of life, and much of our work involves signposting to other agencies and ensuring that those agencies understand the needs of EU clients. We work flexibly and are generally contacted through telephone or internet but we also hold regular ‘drop in’ advice sessions throughout the city. We are particularly keen to help people who have housing difficulties and who face possible homelessness, and we work closely with agencies that work with ‘street homeless’ people. We also support victims of domestic violence helping them to access available services. We help people access employment that reflects their qualifications, training and passions. We wish to ensure that all clients understand their rights in the UK, and can play their part to make Southampton an even better place in which to live and work. WHO DO WE HELP? We assist the Polish, Czech, Slovak, Estonian, Slovenian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Latvian, as well as Romanian, Bulgarian and Russian speaking communities.

Corbenic Camphill Community is home to approximately 80 people, 28 of whom are adults with special needs, set in 50 acres of land, it is made of five households and a variety of workshops. Life is shared on an extended family basis, in order to build a community that upholds each individuals sense of integrity, dignity and worth. Corbenic was established in 1978 in Strathbraan near the village of Dunkeld, Perthshire.We aim to ensure that mutual respect and concern for the dignity of each person are actively fostered through ensuring a stable and secure environment and promoting appropriate independence. Mutual support runs through everyday at Camphill, people of all abilities contributing what they can to community life - real inclusion in a real community. We are currently in the process of building a new house for 10 more residents and although we have attracted funding for the build, we need support in the completion of the project, namely equipping and furnishing the house. This newly created accommodation will offer more opportunities for others with special needs to live and work in Corbenic. Your donation for this project, however, small, is vital and we would ask that you give serious consideration to this appeal. We head-hunt experienced professional educators and managers willing to volunteer their time for free, and match them to developing countries’ needs for advice and expertise. We work across all phases, from early childhood to secondary, vocational and university levels. If our volunteers need to travel abroad, we make all necessary arrangements, and the local government meets the out-of-pocket costs. They may also provide continuing support from the UK. EI’s unique feature is our ability at minimal cost to transfer system-level education expertise across continents. The knowledge transfer goes both ways, because our volunteers’ involvement in key education reforms overseas enriches the UK education system.
