250,000 people are reported missing each year in the UK most will turn up fairly quickly; unfortunately many vulnerable people do not. Local Police Forces call upon the highly skilled Lowland Rescue teams, like ourselves, to help with the search using the latest tried and tested techniques for locating missing people and returning them to a place of safety. Most of the calls will be to search for adults with dementia, children, despondent persons and individuals with mental health issues. We may also be called upon to support Lowland Rescue Teams in other counties and also may be called out in times of national crisis (eg. flooding). We anticipate that the operational costs of the unit will be in the region of £20,000-£30,000 a year.
