Young people make up 50% of the world's population. That's a lot of positive energy. Yet young people are often seen as helpless or dangerous. We beg to differ. With our guidance and support, more young people can become the educators, facilitators and policymakers of today. Not tomorrow. Today.
We help disadvantaged young people in the UK to change their lives and get into work, education or training. This year, The Trust aims to support 58,000 vulnerable young people, helping to give them the skills and confidence to find a job. We cannot do this without your vital support.

Our aim is to enable young people to discover their unique potential and apply their gifts in service to themselves, each other and their community at large. Through creating new and meaningful experiences, we aim to change their horizons.

Widehorizons provides life-changing adventures to disadvantaged children and young people. Over 80% of people in the UK now live in urban areas, spending most of their lives on concrete and tarmac. In London alone, 4 in 10 children are now living in poverty and many will never venture beyond their own doorsteps. Using the outdoors, we give every child hope for a better future; whether that's helping them to understand a classroom subject, overcome a challenge, learn to work as part of a team, or simply grow in confidence. Through our eight Adventure Centres across England and Wales, we help children and young people to discover adventure, and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
British Exploring is a pioneering youth development charity undertaking scientific research expeditions in areas of wilderness, in the four extremes of mountain, jungle, desert and Arctic. Founded in 1932, our aim has been to recruit, train and develop leaders and scientists of the future who are then able to inspire others. Based at the Royal Geographical Society, British Exploring is the world’s oldest charitable organisation of its kind. We take young people on classic expeditions of a challenging and scientific nature to wilderness parts of the world to develop and promote their self reliance, team work, leadership and a spirit of adventure. British Exploring encourages young people from all sectors of society to apply to become Young Explorers and Young Leaders. We raise funds for three main purposes: personal and leadership development, the Dangoor Next Generation Programme (for disadvantaged young people) and bursaries to enable more young people from all parts of society to join our expeditions. British Exploring provides young people with an experience that is both challenging and educational through truly unique expeditions. We seek to empower children and young people to be a force for good in their local communities and beyond. Through our Young Leaders Award, we work to encourage school children to develop their life skills, confidence and community engagement through a series of volunteering activities with real benefit to their local area. We have seen how social barriers and prejudices are broken, as the perception of young people by their communities change and our hope is that we give each pupil who participates the ambition and the opportunity to achieve all that they can and that they will continue to "be the change they want to see" in their communities throughout their lives.
