Starehe UK (UK, 1035323) Browse events

YTD Raised: £2,561.00

Starehe comprises two exceptional schools in Kenya, providing a home and a first-class education for bright boys and girls from impoverished backgrounds - free of charge. The Starehe Centres are much more than extraordinary schools.  Many of the students are orphans, and the Centres never close.  Here young people find caring homes, clothing, regular meals, healthcare and a world-class education. They are unique in instilling a firm sense of duty, and in inspiring former pupils to lead exemplary lives across all walks of Kenyan society; today, there are over 12,000 Starehe old boys taking leading roles in politics, business, the law, academia, medicine and the media.  Now, through the StareheFuture Appeal, we have the opportunity to keep this beacon of hope alight - while building a new generation of African leaders with integrity and purpose. Without this Appeal, both Starehe Centres are likely to encounter insurmountable challenges and fall short of fulfilling their own potential - and that of their students.  These Centres cannot continue to offer a first class education and life-changing opportunity without updating their ageing buildings, securing their power and water supplies, and in the case of the Girls Centre building the facilities in which to house, teach and feed them, as well as to fund the long-term funding of free school places. Donate today - and together we can make a remarkable difference.

Younite Foundation is a newly established local charity aimed to help disadvantaged children and young people in Swindon and the surrounding area. We support already established local charities, community groups, and good causes that young people in Swindon are directly involved in or are benefiting from. From projects that give young people an experience of a lifetime to providing funding for charities that care and support the most vulnerable. This foundation gives financial support to projects we believe are making a positive impact to young people. In today’s society, many young people do not have the platform to achieve and contribute to society as a whole. As a foundation we look to redress this balance and help inspire and motivate; to up skill individuals to make a full contribution to their community and to provide opportunities, experiences and support to encourage a more socially minded approach to life.
