Helping disabled children and young people to live life to the full, while supporting their families in their vital role of caring - we help families enjoy the everyday experiences most take for granted. Originally set up in 2004 to provide essential short break services for children and young people with learning and often physical disabilities, today we offer a wide range of additional care services, social, play and recreational opportunities (including an after school clubs and a popular Saturday club), outreach support and life skills training. Employing clinical and registered nurse specialists The Chiltern Centre is unique locally in being able to provide care for children and young people with profound and multiple and complex physical, emotional, behavioural and medical needs. These needs include sensory impairments, mobility, communication needs, complex feeding needs, breathing difficulties, severe learning difficulties and long-term health issues including cerebral palsy, downs syndrome and autism. 80% of the children require at least 1:1 care, some 2:1 and even 3:1. We support 85 families across the Thames Valley and South Oxfordshire - from a few hours after school once a week, weekly youth clubs or a half-day in the holidays to overnight care and even multi-day breaks.
