Your Seva (UK, 1162477) Browse events

YTD Raised: £5,558.00

Your Seva is a charity inspired by the teachings of Guru Nanak that works towards eradicating poverty. By enabling people to positively contribute to society we aim to help those that are less fortunate so that together we can directly tackle poverty and provide aid to impoverished families. We believe that by providing a helping hand we can empower families that live in poverty to develop the resources necessary so that they can break the cycle of poverty. Your Seva is based on the Sikh principle of Seva: being selfless by taking responsibility and actively contributing to the betterment of humanity by effecting positive social change. Our primary focus currently is India as it is one of the most improvised countries in the world, the South Asian diaspora has a close relationship with India and many Indians hold in common the teachings of Guru Nanak and the principles of Daya (compassion/apathy). We aim to connect with the South Asain community and build on this relationship so that together we can help impoverished families in India. We aim to expand the area in which we can help by growing the charity organically and connecting with other diaspora communities to alleviate poverty in other nations. With this core principles of Daya and Seva we encourage people to share their earnings and volunteer their skills, and put them towards helping those that are less fortunate. It is our mission to help you carry out Your Seva.

BZT has a holistic, community- based approach, working in partnership with Hodi, its partner Zambian-run NGO, so that the changes made are owned and contributed to by those involved. There are three key parts to the work BZT undertakes: 1) improving access to education for school going children, 2) economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods through better farming methods and micro credit 3) raising awareness of HIV/AIDS, its prevention and how to live with it positively. In the last four years BZT, with the help of donors, has a proven track record of making a direct and real difference to 7,500 people’s lives in the Kalwa region, which is five hours’ drive north from Lusaka, near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Government and local chiefs have endorsed the programme; the tangible results have encouraged us to extend the work as the Kalwa Rainbow Development Programme over the next three years. Please visit our website at www.bzt.org.uk for real results for rural people and we hope you will join us on our Rainbow Journey.

Clowns Without Borders aims to improve the lives of children who live in areas of crisis including refugee camps, conflict zones and natural disaster. Through a combination of performances and workshops we enable "children to be children" and create moments of laughter and play when it is needed the most. In areas of crisis children are often the first group in any population to lose their rights; the right to be a child. We create opportunities for children (and communities) to play and relax. Our work doesn't stop there. We know the best way for children to understand anything is to make it fun and so we ensure our performances and workshops deliver and strengthen relevant messages regarding children’s social welfare, education, health and Human Rights.
