We offer free advice on immigration and housing and benefit problems. We also have a health advocate that can help with access to NHS services and GP registration. HMC was established in direct response to needs identified by local agencies and campaigning organisations such as Hackney Community Law Centre, Hackney Refugee and Migrant Support Group, and Hackney Refugee Forum. These were, particularly, asylum seekers’ lack of access to good immigration advice, and widespread housing and welfare problems including destitution, social isolation and unrecognised health problems. HMC aims to reduce poverty, mental distress and social isolation among recent migrants through the provision of high quality immigration and welfare advice and health advocacy. The service is open to any migrant, whatever their nationality, immigration status or present place of residence though almost all clients live in London. HMC also aims to encourage social interaction and mutual support by volunteers talking informally with visitors (clients), and by providing opportunities for interaction among the visitors themselves. We have a small hardship fund which enables us to make one-off payments to destitute visitors. All visitors receive a free lunch as well as support from our volunteers. Hackney Migrant Centre Aims 1. To provide advice and assistance to migrants on immigration, welfare or health issues 2. To offer a welcoming environment to migrants and help reduce social isolation 3. To publicise issues relating to migrants social and economic circumstances

Through a combination of performances and workshops we enable "children to be children" and create moments of laughter and play when it is needed the most. In areas of crisis children are often the first group in any population to lose their rights; the right to be a child. We create opportunities for children (and communities) to play and relax. Our work doesn't stop there. We know the best way for children to understand anything is to make it fun and so we ensure our performances and workshops deliver and strengthen relevant messages regarding children’s social welfare, education, health and Human Rights.
