Independent Parental Special Education Advice (UK, 327691) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,364.01

IPSEA is a national charity offering free legally based advice/support to benefit children with SEN/disability.   One in five children in the UK have some kind of SEN / disability. Many just need the right support, tailored to meet their needs. This might be help in the classroom or extra equipment.  Given this support, most do well at school. They gain qualifications and later, employment.  But if these children’s needs are not met, the implications are bleak. At 16, children with SEN / disability are twice as likely not to be in any form of education, employment or training as their peers. As adults they are far more likely to be unemployed, live in poverty and to end up in custody. Their educational success and life chances are undeniably linked. The SEN system is complex. Most parents need help with the paperwork that securing their child’s support entails. Demand for our expertise exceeds our resources. Our help lines receive 100 calls a day that we cannot answer. We need your help to train more volunteers!

Anne Frank Trust UK (UK, 1003279) Browse events

YTD Raised: £4,301.56

Established in 1990, the Anne Frank Trust UK delivers education and training which promote and celebrate positive citizenship, human rights, equality and diversity. At the heart of our work is the story of Anne Frank whose diary holds universal appeal. Through its messages we are able to challenge prejudice and discrimination today, encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to embrace positive attitudes, responsibility and respect for others. Every year our regional teams, operating across the UK, reach over 70,000 people. These teams deliver peer education and exhibition programmes in schools, colleges, prisons and in local communities. We target our work in areas where people are most likely to be exposed to intolerant and prejudiced attitudes. Anne Frank is a powerful role model for young people and adults alike. Her life and diary help us to reflect on attitudes of prejudice and discrimination. She encourages us to be proud of who we are and to respect others, regardless of background. All of the Trust’s education and training services promote greater harmony and understanding across the diverse ethnic and religious communities which make up 21st century Britain.

Since it’s establishment in 1998 HopScotch has enabled over 4000 different children to have a break at Ardvullin and the number has increased steadily year on year, from 100 in 1999 to over 350 in 2012. In 2013 we plan to provide 348 disadvantaged children, who have no other chance of a break away from their problems, with a week at Ardvullin. Using the HopScotch bus we collect children and user organisation staff from their home area on a Monday and return them back on a Friday.  During their stay at Ardvullin children are given the chance to participate in a planned programme of educational and fun activities such as horse riding, canoeing, indoor climbing and mountain biking.   They also visit local beaches, nature reserves and marine, wildlife and heritage centres. They learn about the countryside and seaside and about team work, tolerance and social and practical skills all in a supportive and caring environment. Children leave Ardvullin with an increased ability to address their own problems and overcome the hurdles they face in their everyday lives.   GOOD CHILDHOOD MEMORIES LAST A LIFETIME
