Bradford Disability Services Limited, better known as Disability Advice Bradford (DaB) and Disability Equipment Bradford (DeB) is a long established and respected Registered Charity. The organization was first established as The Bradford Voluntary Action Group for Disabled Persons in 1979 as a result of five disabled people coming together to press for their rights and to overcome the discrimination in many aspects of daily life that can affect the lives of disabled people. The ‘office’ was a room in one of the founder member’s houses. Since then the charity has evolved in many ways but the organizations core values still remain the same. Our aim is to empower people with disabilities, carers and their families, living within the Bradford Metropolitan District, to achieve and lead a high quality of life within a modern and inclusive society. We will achieve this by providing professional, non-judgmental and confidential services that will facilitate and improve independent living and equality.

STAR International was founded by three friends in 2012 after many years of international volunteer service. While there are countless areas in need of assistance, our hearts lie with the children of Romania, especially those with special needs living in orphanages, group homes, or underprivileged communities. The quality of life of many of these individuals could be improved greatly with increased exposure to therapy. STAR International advocates not only for the importance of therapeutic interventions, but also for the rights of these children and young adults to receive them. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, access to resources is limited. We assist in providing resources needed to ensure the most successful therapeutic experiences possible, including training for caregivers in the skills needed to help those with disabilities reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.

Planning Democracy is campaigning for equality and fairness in the planning system in Scotland. We do this because planning affects our environment massively and many people find it incredibly difficult to get their voice heard when they are trying to protect Scotland from unwanted and detrimental development. So Planning Democracy challenges Government policy, law and a culture that often prioritises the needs of developers and big business over communities and the environment. We exist because people are often not listened to when important decisions get made about what is built in their local area. To give people a stronger voice in the planning system we are campaigning for Equal Rights of Appeal. This is a change in the law to put communities on a level playing field and allow them to appeal planning decisions, which currently only developers can do. This would fix a blatant injustice in the planning system which gives developers more power than the communities they affect. You can find out more about the campaign at www.planningdemocracy.org.uk.
