HOPEmalawiUK started when a bunch of friends decided to try make a difference for the people of Nkhata Bay, Malawi. We chose Nkhata Bay because the people there came to the aid of one of our members in 1996. Since then, others have heard the story and got involved. We support the grassroots organisation HOPEmalawi. HOPEmalawi support those that are looking for a helping hand, not a hand-out. They argue against those in their community who won’t do anything to help themselves as much as the poverty they see around them. These are the people determined to help make a permanent change away from dependence on aid. That’s the end game. Our hope is to link people and community groups in the UK that will support and encourage similar groups in Nkhata Bay; these days’ communities have no borders. They inspire us as much as we inspire them. We are a community of like-minded people and everyone who wants to join in is welcome.
