We run a nursery and feeding station in Nsumbi Village, Monkey Bay Malawi. Up to 100 children a day are cared for, educated and receive a vital lunchtime meal. We work closely with the local community. All our team in Malawi receive a salary. The staff teach the children in Chichewa and English. Could you help us to help them? Our main aim is the provision of a Preschool education to the children of Nsumbi Village. The nursery is called Madalitso meaning Blessings in Chichewa. As well as this vital provision we also work closely with the local workers at the clinic. Map - Malawi Against Physical Disabilities are one of our main partners. We provide multi sensory toys for their clinics. We also support individual children with their special needs - such as provision of special bikes and help with school transport and Educational expenses. We work with young people aged 12-21 who hang out in the city centre (around 150 different young people over the course of a fortnight). We don’t ‘put stuff on’ for the young people, instead we support them to develop their own opportunities – that way there’s a shed load more skills and confidence developed. Most importantly, Hot Chocolate is a place where the young people feel 'at home' and feel surrounded by ‘family’.

YTD Raised: £0.00West Essex Alcohol and Drugs Service ADAS Established in 1987 ADAS is a charity that supports people from West Essex who are concerned about their alcohol use. Our highly committed and experienced team are qualified in the field of substance misuse and provide a friendly and supportive environment to assist and aid recovery for those suffering with alcohol problems. Why West Essex community needs us: ADAS understands the impact that alcohol misuse can have on both the individual and their family, we therefore work offer services to support the family as well as the person with the problem. Whilst offering support and 1:1 counselling to the client, we also provide a recovery activity day care programme that clients are able to access giving structure to their day and aiding recovery. “My drinking was so out of control that I was not safe to be around my children. I was frequently in and out of hospital having attempted suicide whilst drunk. The most scary thing was that I was in total denial of how bad things had got and how it was affecting the children. Without ADAS I would be dead, the help and support they gave to me and my family was what turned my life around. I have been sober for over two years and my children received support from Elise (child therapist) to be able to deal with the psychological damage my drinking behaviour caused. I now get involved in supporting other alcoholics as I have first hand experience of the dreadful chaos it causes in a family. I am just grateful to be alive and that my children came through the nightmare (Client, September 2013). www.adasuk.org
