Daybreak Oxford (UK, 1113182) Browse events

YTD Raised: £963.79

What is Daybreak? Daybreak is a specialist charity which offers stimulation and support for people living with dementia and memory loss as well as a day’s respite for carers. Daybreak Clubs are for anyone affected by dementia. They are places where people are welcome whether a person has just been diagnosed or have been affected for some time. Daybreak is about enabling people with a dementia to lead a more engaged and fulfilling life by bringing together professional help, within communities of support and respite care. We also welcome the involvement of family, friends and carers, in Daybreak’s activities  as they will be and are often deeply affected by dementia too. We know that those who love and look after someone with dementia can also feel anxious, vulnerable and isolated. Each year tens of thousands of people are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and the figure is rising annually. The good news is that people are living longer but unfortunately  the older you get the more likely you are to suffer from a dementia. Latest statistics show that one in four people over 70 are diagnosed with dementia / Alzheimer’s Daybreaks through its clubs helps to improve the quality of life of people with a dementia  by providing a safe social environment,  it enables carers and their families to enjoy a day’s respite Daybreak clubs act as an antidote to the loneliness and despair of a dementia diagnosis. In a nutshell Daybreak helps visitors to their clubs (and their carers) have the best possible life with a dementia /memory loss diagnosis We need your help to make our vision a reality for Oxfordshire. Every penny you raise will have a direct impact on the service we offer. Thank you for your support.

Global Witness Trust (UK, 1117844) Browse events

YTD Raised: £457.15

Global Witness runs pioneering campaigns against natural resource-related conflict and corruption and associated environmental and human rights abuses. From Cambodia to Congo, Sierra Leone to Angola, we have exposed the brutality and injustice that results from the fight to access and control natural resource wealth, and have sought to bring the perpetrators of this corruption and conflict to book. Our work has revealed how, rather than benefiting a country’s citizens, abundant timber, diamonds, minerals, oil and other natural resources can incentivise corruption, destabilise governments, and lead to war. Through our investigations, advocacy and campaigning, we seek solutions to the ‘resource curse’ so that citizens of resource-rich countries can get a fair share of their country’s wealth For more information and to read about the impact our work has had, click here In 2014 we were also honoured and delighted to be the recipient of the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, and the TED Prize.
