Fishing For Heroes (UK, 1135355) Browse events

YTD Raised: £159.00

Fishing for Heroes was established in July 2009 and was registered as a charity on the 1st of April 2010 (charity number 1135355) in order to provide therapy and support for both veterans and serving military personnel from the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces who may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Combat Fatigue and any other mental or emotional disorder due to active service. We have no restriction with regards to the theatre of war the veterans took part in; hence we include service in amongst other places such as Korea, Malaysia, Northern Ireland, Falklands and Kosovo as well as more recent conflicts What we achieve We:    The Cost of Helping The cost incurred will include Travell costs to and from the course venues. The accommodations we use are family type bed and breakfast establishments. This gives us low cost and safe accommodation whilst putting the veterans back into a family environment, for some possibly for the first time in many years. Each veteran receives a 1:1 assessment and tuition from a fully qualified instructor/assessor all of whom are very experienced in dealing with people who have behavioral challenges. This element is tailored to each individual as their needs will vary in response to the effects of the support given to the individual veteran or serving personnel. The cost of caring for the veterans can vary and the help and support which we offer depends very much on each individual, however we have found over the last 3 years that the average cost to the charity is in the region of £1000 per annum, per person.

YTD Raised: £132.00

Veterans In Action (VIA) is a UK based charity specialising in the social reintegration of socially excluded HM Forces Veterans. The overriding aim of this organisation is to develop a national Veteran support framework centring on the principles of Outreach Work and Adventurous Activities, in support of the UK's Veteran community. Therein VIA organise and staff outreach projects designed to maximise opportunities to firstly identify, then offer support to Veterans within a regional and national context. After a veteran has been identified as an individual who might benefit from our services, we offer a range of support packages designed to encourage social participation and to a degree challenge the individual via a range of meaningful activities from fundraising to the more physical challenges engendered in Adventure Training. As suggested our services can be divided broadly into two distinctly separate agenda, on the one hand centring on Outreach Work, whilst the other focuses specifically on Adventurous Activities. The ALIVE Program is a three stage process that has been developed by Veterans In Action to work on the personal development of Armed Forces veterans, some of whom have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and others who find it difficult to adjust to civilian life. http://www.veteransinaction.org.uk/alive-program-pa-795.php
