(UK, XN26202) Browse eventsHoly Trinity church is a Church of England place of worship located in Barrow-upon-Soar in Leicestershire. The church provides regular services of worship and is a central part of the village community. Recognising the role that the church plays in the community has led to a fund raising effort to improve the facilities that the church offers through the development of an extension to the main church building to provide a community meeting place, toilets and meeting rooms. It is envisaged that this facility will help the church continue to grow the services that it provides to the community for both secular and non-secular use. The entire project is expected to cost in the region of £550,000 and building is scheduled to begin in April 2011.

People gather to worship God and to celebrate the eucharist week by week in this church. Couples exchange their marriage vows before the high altar and bring their children to be baptised in the font. We are proud of our church, listed as grade two star by English Heritage. We want to conserve it for future geneartions to enjoy, above all we want to share the glory of Christ Church with the local community and our visitors. This is costly and any donation you can make will be very much appreciated. Christ Church can seat over 700 people in its spacious nave. It is built of brick in early English Gothic style with an apsidal east end and lofty lancet windows. The architect was james Piers St Aubyn. He also designed the tower which was added in 1915. The tower, spire and bells were a generous gift of the third vicar of Christ Church, Canon A W Boulden. The church is beautified with mural paintings and stained galss windows. Two of the stained glass windows celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902

(UK, XN83380311) Browse eventsThe Friends of Salhouse Church has as its main objective the preservation and enhancement of our beautiful fifteenth century church, All Saints, in Salhouse, Norfolk. This church is a priceless asset to the whole community, which it has served for over six hundred years, and we want to ensure that it lasts another six hundred (at least!) Started only in July 2011, the Friends have already chalked up two major successes. In December 2011 we laid on a water supply, thanks to a local farmer who kindly let us tap into his bore hole. Then in April 2012, we worked with the diocesan WiSpire team to get a broadband transmitter installed on the church tower, giving us an internet hot-spot within the church (with an eye to on-line broadcasts). Our current aim is to help raise funds towards the planned extension to the church. This will provide a kitchen and toilets - facilities which were somehow overlooked when the church was first built. Once we have these, the church will be able to host concerts, hold workshops and generally serve the local community. See our website for details of our SINGATHON on September 29-30

Christ Church also has a designated art gallery, housing one of the most important private collections of Old Master paintings and drawings in Britain. It was open to the public since 1767 which makes it one of the first art collections in the country that offered free access to all interested art lovers. Our aim has been to preserve and display the collection for future generations. Among the works are nine fragments of a large panel depicting the lives of the hermits in the desert. These paintings are now in need of extensive conservation treatment. In order to be able to carry this out we have launched a fundraising campaign to SAVE THE HERMITS.
