AIMS provides information and support to women, and those working with childbearing women via our helpline, website and publications.AIMS is a lay organisation, run by women who are not health or social services professionals. AIMS membership is open to anyone. All the committee are voluntary workers and there are no paid staff. We rely solely on income from membership subscription, publications sales and donations. YTD Raised: £0.00Harrogate Lions Club is a community minded organisation of volunteers who are dedicated to the welfare of others less fortunate. The Club is an affiliated member of Lions Clubs International which is the largest service organisation in the world with over 2.3 million members in more than 202 Countries and geographical areas. Lion members come from all walks of life and give there time freely to help others. Fundraising is necessary to help them cary out this voluntary work in the community and Internationally. The Lions are particularly proud that they were able recently to raise £80,000 to provide a new state of the art laser laser machine for Harrogate District Hospital. Lions take great pride in that every penny which they raise from fundraising goes direct to charitable use. They have many projects including youth and the elderly, donations will help with these projects as well as helping with the welfare of others.

YTD Raised: £0.00North Staffordshire BASICs (NSB) is a medical charity based in Stoke on Trent serving the communities of Staffordshire and surrounding counties. Their doctors are tasked by the ambulance service to provide additional medical capabilities at the most serious medical emergencies. They are able to bring “hospital level care” to these patients. Their doctors are trained in anaesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine and work at the major trauma centre in Stoke on Trent. They also train the next generation of “pre-hospital doctors” that will work on the Air Ambulances and emergency cars across the UK. NSB’s doctors are requested approximately 350 times every year by the ambulance service. They provide a doctor 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Despite all being fully qualified doctors they all offer their time and expertise for free. The charity which has to provide all its own vehicles, insurance, fuel and medical equipment receives no government money or support. The charity costs almost ten thousand pounds every year to operate. This money has to be raised by its volunteer doctors and supporters each and every year. Examples of costs: Car insurance per vehicle per year: £750 Patient monitor: £15,000 Driver training course: £1750 Medical Bag: £500 Personnel protective equipment per person: £900

YTD Raised: £0.00Exploring Global Health Opportunities is a charity which aims to generate, combine and increase interest and efforts in improving international health, particularly in poor countries. EGHO currently works with projects in Kenya including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Patient Safety, Hospital staff education and training, Rural medicine and community health. EGHO also aims to bring people and organisations together to help maximise efforts and impact in project sustainability. EGHO projects provide a service where there is evidence of need. We work on a skills and knowledge transfer basis with the supporting and receiving teams. A key feature of the projects supported by EGHO is the development of local services run and funded by local health care communities to provide sustainable health care and the avoid the promoting of dependancy on further charitable donations. A recent example was the development of the first Primary Trauma Care course in Kenya in October 2011. On a Monday and Tuesday 20 Kenyan doctors and nurses were trained on an internationally recognized immediate assessment and treatment of trauma patients. On Wednesday 8 of the Kenyan doctors underwent a training the trainers course to run their own Primary Trauma Care course. This the Kenyan team ran on the Thursday and Friday by themselves and trained a further 20 Kenyan doctors and nurses. Both the initial course run by doctors from the UK and South Africa and the second course run by the Kenyans were formally evaluated. The Kenyan course performed better than the one run by a EGHO sponsored visiting team. This will now be rolled out across Kenya by Kenyans.
