Jamie’s Fund has been established to provide resources to improve the care for people with mental illness in Uganda. It is in memory of Jamie Devaney who died in 2011, after falling ill while on a family holiday and fund raising trip in Uganda. He was only four years old, but during those years Jamie brought immense joy and pleasure to his family, and everyone else who was fortunate enough to know him.Mental illness tends to be neglected compared to physical illnesses in Uganda. People with severe mental illness are often misunderstood and badly treated and the great majority have no hope of receiving appropriate treatment. As a low-income country, Ugandan health services are limited and resources for mental health are pitifully small. In UK the health spend per person is around £2000 per year: In Uganda it is £6 and only 1% of this is spent on mental health. Jamie’s Fund is working with other organisations to raise the status and standards of mental health care.
Hospice Africa Ireland (HAI) is a support organisation for Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU). Core activities of Hospice Africa Ireland include fund-raising, co-ordination activities with HAU, awareness raising about the activities of HAU and advocacy for Palliative care access for those in developing countries using the HAU model of care. Hospice Africa Uganda provides palliative care services for people living with HIV/AIDS and/or Cancer and their families in Uganda.
We provide funds to promising young athletes when they really need it most; right at the start of their career. Early encouragement, support and funding significantly increases the chance of a young person achieving their potential. Lack of finance should not be a barrier so disabled and able-bodied athletes are encouraged to apply for funding to help cover the costs of their training. Anyone can apply as long as their club and coaches sanction their application and their sport is recognised by Sport England. Athletes complete the application on our website detailing their training goals and the costs associated with them. Once approved each athlete has their own page on our website and on Virgin Money Giving, where they can showcase their talent and individuality. You support the athletes of your choice; friends, family, school mates, club members, the wider sporting public, in fact anyone can help. All donations are collected by us and then distributed to the athletes in accordance with their financial needs detailed in their application. We don't charge a penny, relying on your generosity to fund the charities running costs.
Multiple Myeloma Ireland (MMI) is the only charity organisation focused on Multiple Myeloma in Ireland. MMI received charity status in July 2013. MMI provides information and support for Multiple Myeloma patients, families and carers at a national and regional level, through its network of support groups across the country. Our board members include patients, carers, health care professionals and board match volunteers. All board members are voluntary. CHIPTA is the Parent Teacher Association for Coombe Hill infant School. Its aim is to assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school by engaging in activities which support the school and promote the education of the pupils. All parents of the school are automatically members of CHIPTA. What this means in practice is that CHIPTA undertake a variety of fund raising activities for the school, which not only raises much needed funds to enrich the school and the education of the children, but promotes a deep feeling of community and a fun environment for both parents and children. Examples are Christmas and Summer Fairs, Adult and Children Disco and Film Nights, Mobile Phone and Cartridge Recycling and many other activities. Projects funded from past money raised include: Adventure Playground upgrade including non slip safety surfaces and paths; Refurbishment of swimming pool changing rooms; Providing recyclable water bottles for every child; Storage sheds; Garden improvements to enrich the childrens' outdoor teaching experience; and Murals for a quiet area in the playground.
Taldumande provides a continuum of support, care and accommodation options to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and their families, within a holistic and compassionate framework. We offer a range of residential and non-residential programs appropriate to the individual needs of the young person. Our Residential program includes a fully supported Crisis Youth Refuge, which is the only one remaining north of the Harbour Bridge, a semi supported shared house and independent units. We provide a range of support and services which include: emotional support, case management, living skills, educational and employment assistance, recreational activities, advocacy and referral, family and relationship support and exit planning.
