(UK, 1165177) Browse eventsSpotlight YOPD is the new kid on the block... 200 years since the discovery of Parkinson's Disease, we thought it was time a charity represented those younger people with the condition. We aim to be the 'go to' organisation for ‘Young Parkies’ - providing or enabling access to information and support for those diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease (YOPD). We want to see action not just raise awareness: • Consistent quality treatment across the board, irrelevant of postcode - where everyone has a plan of care and access to a neurologist and PD nurse, plus any other treatments that may be useful. • We want to encourage better emotional and physical health - eating and exercising well - and advise on any other therapies.• Free prescriptions for those with YOPD. Spotlight YOPD is mostly run by those with PD. Ultimately we want those with Young Onset Parkinson's to be seen as the long-term investment that we should be. With longer to live with the condition, we have more to lose and consequently - by being proactive - far more to gain. Of unknown causes and not necessarily hereditary, anyone and everyone is at risk. Confirmed figures are hard to find, without a UK database, but we speculate that the number is growing among young and old.We aim to give the newly diagnosed the strength and support (by us being here, but not in your face) to come into the light and be counted. People often regret suffering in silence.
