(UK, 1143961) Forget-Me-Not Dementia Day Clubs are social clubs for members of the public with all types of dementia and their carers. Many people with dementia lose contact with their friends as their health declines. The clubs provide an opportunity for friendship, access to social life and enable people to have enjoyment in life. The clubs also give carers the opportunity to have a break from caring for their spouse/relative and to meet others in the same situation for support. The clubs are also open to ex-carers who have lost a relative to dementia and need support. A variety of activities take place such as trips, walks, short holidays, also indoor activities, e.g. board games, bingo, snooker, quizzes, crafts, etc. Entertainment is also provided. All who work for Forget-Me-Not are unpaid volunteers. The clubs are run within local communites in church halls. Currently there are four clubs in the Swansea area - in Gorseinon, Mumbles and two in Killay, with approximately 100 people attending at the current time.All donations, large and small, are very much appreciated as with the increase in numbers of people suffering from dementia, particularly with an ageing population, the clubs will no doubt continue to be a support to the public for many years ahead. The Charity was set up as a memory to Emma whose life was tragically cut short just before her 30th birthday. Em always wanted to support people to fulfil their potential and this Trust will continue what she believed in so passionately. We choose to support charities that develop the confidence and capabilities of young people aged between 16-25. So far with your generous donations we have supported:--the 'First Steps' Programme run by the Step by Step charity based in Aldershot-the 'Turning the Tables' initiative run by Streets of Growth in Tower HamletsNew donations will go to our current project. We are looking at charities that work with some of the brightest and most able young people in the UK, regardless of background, providing education and employability experiences which raise both aspirations and attainment.
