(UK, 05125) Browse eventsSt Albans Hockey Club is one of the most successful sports clubs in the area with both the Men’s and Womens first teams playing in the National League and seventeen teams playing on a regular basis. As a hockey club we also feel it is important to increase youth sports here in St Albans, hence the development of our large Colts Section which involves more than 150 girls and boys. And that number is growing every year. However the success and growth of our club has put considerable pressure on the Clubs traditional facilities at Clarence Park. There is only one artificial turf pitch, minimal car parking space and a pavilion which cannot be extended, as it is a listed building. With this in mind, and to help us maintain our position as one of the largest clubs in the country and a centre of excellence in St Albans, Hertfordshire and the East, we have had to look elsewhere. An opportunity has arisen for the Club to partner with Oakland’s College in the development of two new artificial pitches and sports facilities at their Oakland’s College campus in St Albans. This would achieve three goals: So we are now jointly looking to raise the £1.1 million and we are already 82% of the way there. Oakland’s College is obtaining a range of educational grants, and we have obtained £187,000 grants from Hockey England and other sources. However we still need just under £200,000 to make this dream a reality.
