As the first HIV housing provider in the Midwest, we originally provided housing to eight single adults who were dying of AIDS. 30 years later, we now serve more than 1,800 clients annually through our greatly expanded programming, which now includes over 200 units of housing for those living with HIV/AIDS. Due to advances in medicine and subsequent increased life expectancies for those living with HIV, Chicago House greatly expanded programming over the years so that services now include permanent housing, employment services, case management, medication adherence, HIV testing and linkage to medical care, prevention interventions, legal services, and social services designed to lead those living with HIV/AIDS, and in LGBTQ poverty, toward wholeness, self-sufficiency, and better well-being.
