The Meeting Room runs daytime drop in centers for homeless, socially isolated and unemployed people living within our community. We offer them a warm, safe and friendly environment where they are made to feel welcome and have a chance to eat, relax and socialise. A hot nourishing mid-day meal sustains the body, while talking, playing games and activities helps to break isolation. By listening to our clients and gaining their trust, we help them by signposting them to agencies or professional bodies for help. Results don’t always happen overnight, or sometimes at all, but our goal is to continue being there to offer support and friendship. We also visit the school at least annually to see the difference our financial support is having, to identify future needs and to support practically with teacher training etc. This school provides education to 300 children who had never been able to have an education as other government schools are too far away and too expensive. We are incredibly lucky to have a supportive headteacher who is determined to push even harder against the cuts in arts, music and sports funding and to ensure our school excels in these areas as well as maintaining the other core curriculum subjects. All the money we raise goes directly into the school to provide whatever we can for our children and to help towards whatever resources our teachers and teaching assistants need.
