MCAS is a complex disease affecting the body’s immune system. It is difficult to diagnose and treat with confidence as it often presents with many unusual symptoms that confound the medical system.Most sufferers have greatly reduced quality of life without diagnosis and treatment which, when provided, can be simple and greatly improve the symptoms. These sufferers are currently invisible to the system.Mast Cell Action has been set up to support patients, raise awareness of this disease and work with the medical community to improve diagnosis and treatment.This is our start-up year and we are looking for the £20-£25,000 we need, to get the charity off the ground as a fully functioning organisation, able to support and fundraise. COSMIC raises money through a number of events each year, and is heavily supported by families whose lives have been touched by the PICU. All funds are used to provide life saving equipment, to provide support and accommodation to parents and to fund training, education and an internationally significant research programme at Imperial College London looking at the causes, effects and treatment of childhood diseases.
