(UK, 1143423) Browse eventsChrist Church was established by Henry VIII in 1546. It is a unique joint foundation of a college in the University of Oxford and the cathedral of the diocese. Christ Church also has a designated art gallery, housing one of the most important private collections of Old Master paintings and drawings in Britain. It was open to the public since 1767 which makes it one of the first art collections in the country that offered free access to all interested art lovers. Our aim has been to preserve and display the collection for future generations. Among the works are nine fragments of a large panel depicting the lives of the hermits in the desert. These paintings are now in need of extensive conservation treatment. In order to be able to carry this out we have launched a fundraising campaign to SAVE THE HERMITS.
