Embracing a wide range of tools and programmes, the charity has undertaken initiatives as diverse as colour therapy workshops for children with brain injuries to funding inhospital pantomimes. Days out for bereaved children and activity days for the siblings of the terminally ill have been organised by the charity, as well as an initiative to provide chickens to HIV orphanages in Africa. In short if it can brighten a child’s life, or improve their life chances, then Spread Some Sunshine is interested in helping. Led by Faye Toner, a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant, the charity grew from informal beginnings, Faye arranged collections of clothes, books and toiletries for distribution on her international travels to an organisation bringing joy to children across the world. The charity has built a Sunshine House for young HIV mothers in India who have been widowed, ostracised or abused, and is currently leading a pioneering sponsorship scheme that helps support orphans overseas, and gives them something many have never before received, a birthday present.
