(UK, 1143256) The Big Heart Charity Fund was set up to help people with serious heart conditions, principally by raising money to pay for medical equipment and research for heart-related conditions in the North of England. In 2008 Adam Smith, then aged 33 years old, was taken seriously ill with endocarditis (a rare infection of his heart). Further complications developed which resulted in a stroke and pneumonia....he was left fighting for his life in intensive care.Either of these conditions is life-threatening and it took a massive fight and a minor miracle for him to survive. Thankfully he did. Today he is fit and healthy, living his life with a mechanical heart valve and a pacemaker. Adam wanted to do something to help other people with serious heart conditions so he and his family set up The Big Heart Charity Fund.The Charity has already raised in excess of £50,000, a group of Adam's friends completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 2010 and a team of cyclists, including Adam completed the journey from Lands End to John o'Groats in 2011. (AU, 36316533153) Stepping Stones Nigeria, Sydney is a non- profit organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, such as the so-called child "witches" and "wizards" from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Many of these children are left orphaned, either ostracised from their own community, tortured or killed. A deeply held belief remains within this region that these children have the power to cause diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, hepatitis, typhoid and cancer. All accidents, mental health issues, divorce, infertility and misfortunes are seen to be the handiwork of these so called "witches" and "wizards". The actions taken against these children are a horrific abuse of children's rights. Stepping Stones Nigeria, Sydney desires to see these children receive housing, a proper education, healthcare, food and protection. The funds we work to raise are dedicated towards supporting these outcomes for the children and we need your help to achieve these goals.
