For the first few years VSA was running as a non-registered organisation with monthly get together held for prayers and other community activities and services. In May 2014 the community registered the VSA as a Charity and Not for Profit Organisation with Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Since 2014 to date, VSA is actively conducting regular prayer activities, education (Gujarati language) activities and Balpushti Activities (Children activities like art and craft, dance, sports, drama etc.) and senior citizen activities. The VSA is growing every year and more families are participating in our prayers and community services every year. We used Zoom (and other technology) during COVID to ensure our activities are held regularly for the benefit of the community.
(UK, 1112669) Browse eventsThe Raj Saubhag Ashram is primarily a spiritual centre, and is located in Sayla, a village rich in spiritual history. However, the surrounding region suffers from severe poverty, a harsh climate and barren soil. Param Pujya Bapuji, a son of this soil, with a distinguished local career in government service, was very conscious of the suffering of the local population. Once the Ashram was established in 1976, with the spirituality as its primary focus, throughout his time as head of the Ashram and beyond, Bapuji emphasised the cultivation of the quality of compassion in all his disciples and encouraged activities to improve the welfare of those living around the Ashram. He inspired the Ashram members to look out for the needs of others, while pursuing personal spiritual goals, and this has led to contributions to local society in the fields of education, medicine, distribution of food and clothing, rehabilitation of the physically challenged, vocational training, as well as emergency relief. As well as sowing the seeds of compassion, Param Pujya Bapuji always said that the cultivation of detachment (Vairagya) was fundamental to spiritual (Adhyatmic) progress. However, this detachment is compassionate. In our routinely comfortable lives, we often forget the misery of others, and sometimes lose a sense of perspective. When we work or become acquainted with those less fortunate than us, we immediately regain perspective, if we are thoughtful, and this will lead us to re-examine the certainty of the things we take for granted. In our service of others, we not only facilitate transformation of their livelihoods, we also transform ourselves. Compassion for the self and others, combined with detachment, will enable us to live in this world in a way which creates inner peace and harmony with those around us.

UCAN serves 11,000 at-risk children, youth and families across Illinois through more than 30 programs. Our programs create a healing process for youth who have experienced trauma and provide a continuum of care including the following services: • Therapeutic Youth Home • K-12 Therapeutic Day School • Clinical and counseling services • Transitional and independent living programs • Support for pregnant and parenting teens • Foster care placement • Workforce development • Youth leadership development • Violence prevention programming In the summer of 2016, UCAN completed a $43 million capital campaign to construct our new Drost-Harding Campus located on Chicago’s west side. The space is home to more than 300 full- and part-time employees working at the John D. and Alexandra C. Nichols Program and Administrative Headquarters which enables our services to be more centralized in providing expanded outreach for youth leadership and violence prevention programming, clinical, counseling and family support services, and workforce development initiatives. In addition, the campaign made possible the Diermeier Therapeutic Youth Home, a state-of-the-art facility for youth who have suffered trauma to heal and grow.
