(UK, 1102028) Browse eventsAbout Our vision is of an open and just society free from discrimination, where all people can meet their needs and realise their potential. Our mission is to create opportunities for people in southern Africa to develop their full potential through education and the assertion of human rights. Alumni Since 1981 we have awarded over 3000 postgraduate scholarships to southern African scientists, human rights lawyers, civil servants, educationalists, doctors and other professionals. Our regional network of 3000 alumni is sustained by our conferences, retreats and alumni associations. Many of our scholars have gone on to become leaders in government, the private sector and civil society. They include Peter Katjavivi (1985), who set up Namibia's first university, later becoming the Namibian Ambassador to the EU; Zubeda Dangor (1996), Executive Director of the NISAA Institute for Women's Development, a South African women's and children's rights NGO; and Grace Chipalo-Mutati (2005), Consultant Orpthalmologist and Head of the Eye Unit at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. Projects We also support community-based projects in southern Africa to increase access to education. Our project partners share our commitment to education as a tool of empowerment. They include the Adolescent Girls' Literacy Project in Malawi, which reintegrates young school dropouts into the secondary school system; the Small Project Foundation, which trains community health workers in the Eastern Cape; and the Giyani Science and Careers Centre, which strengthens science and IT education for thousands of rural South African students. (UK, SC046258) Browse eventsWe are a welfare based animal rescue charity who offer safety for hundreds of animals, large and small every year. We help animals from cats to hens, dogs to terrapins. We help stray dogs from the pounds in the UK and we often help dogs who have heath issues and are going to need ongoing vet treatment for sometimes the rest of their lives. We help small animals-rabbits,guinea pigs etc and many larger animals too like unwanted colts and ex racehorses. We have aviaries where we have many budgies, canaries and parakeets and they remain with us in their flocks for their lifetime. We are run purely by volunteers so all money raised goes directly to the animals. We offer rescue back up for life to every animal we have so they are safe from the minute they come to us to the day they die. We always endeavor to help as many animals as we can and we need the support from our wonderful supporters to help us to carry on.We have over 400 animals with us each month and we desperately need help to provide them with all the veterinary treatment they require,to pay for any behavioral help needed,to buy food and bedding and to get the animals ready to be adopted and find their forever homes.Any help we receive in funding our rescue is greatly appreciated and we are a registered charity who strives to work our hardest to help animals in need.
