YTD Raised: $0.00Inspired by the good works being done by the Tenderfeet Education Centre in Kenya a group of Aussies, from the beautiful South West of Western Australia, have come together over the last few years to help make a difference As the ground swell of support grew, it was decided that it was time to start an Australian Charity and Tenderfeet Australia Inc. was born in 2011.As well as supporting the Tenderfeet Education Centre, Tenderfeet Australia will have a special focus on the Kipepeo programme enabling teenage girls to continue into secondary education in safe, nurturing educational environments. Mama Margaret’s powerful work has now inspired people half a world away, and the Tenderfeet ideal is something that all board members and local supporters are proud to be involved with.

YTD Raised: $0.00Today they will never walk again. Neil Sachse lives for the day that people with spinal cord injury will walk again. He established the Neil Sachse Foundation as a first step to curing spinal cord injury. Thanks to vital community support, we have established the Neil Sachse Foundation Spinal Cord Injury Research Centre, to provide a dedicated laboratory for researchers and students. As an integral part of the University of Adelaide's Neuroscience Research Insitute, the Centre will also become an international centre-of-excellence aimed at making a significant difference to the lives of people who suffer a spinal cord injury. Research will focus on protection of nerves in the spinal cord immediately following damage caused by accidents or falls (neuroprotection) and to nerve regrowth (reconnection). Your support will help these people take their first step to a better quality of life.

The Wilderness Society supports indigenous people's land and sea rights, and is committed to proper and detailed consultation with affected indigenous people before and during campaigns to protect wilderness and biological diversity. Established in 1976, The Wilderness Society is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation. The vast majority of our funding is provided by members who pay membership and regular donations to support our work. Ballarat Health Services is the largest regional hospital in the Grampians region, and as such, is the principal referral hospital for the entire Region, which extends from Bacchus Marsh to the South Australian border, an area of 48,000 square kilometers. More than 224,000 people, or 4.4 per cent of the population of Victoria, live in the Grampians Region. Ballarat Health Services employs 3000 staff to ensure optimum care is provided for all patients, families and visitors. YTD Raised: $0.00Shar Pei Rescue Inc. is a Not For Profit association registered in Victoria (registration number A0053985U) and dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned and neglected Shar Pei dogs. Perhaps better known as the “Rolly” dog made famous in the Purex toilet paper commercial, the Chinese Shar Pei is recognised as one of the world’s oldest dog breeds however despite its existence dating back 2000 years, the Shar Pei has been on the brink of extinction. In 1978, this gorgeous animal was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s rarest dog. In the early 80’s the breed made its way to Australia and became an instant hit after featuring in the Purex television commercial. This resulted in an exceptionally large demand for adorable “Rolly” puppies. Sadly however, once the puppy cuteness disappears many Shar Pei are abandoned or surrendered to pounds and shelters where they inevitably face euthanasia. Shar Pei grow into strong, dominant adults, and like all dominant breeds of dogs, they require training and socialisation. Relegated to the back yard, ignored or mistreated, Shar Pei can become withdrawn and aggressive. To add to these problems, the breed is susceptible to entropian (a genetic condition requiring expensive eye lift surgery to prevent blindness) and numerous skin conditions. In addition, Shar Pei can suffer from Shar Pei Fevour which many vets are ill-equipped to correctly diagnose and remedy. Sadly, because of these health issues, Shar Pei rarely make it out of pounds alive. It's been said that you've never truly owned a pet until you've owned a Shar Pei as they each have their own unique personalities. The Shar Pei have one of the richest histories of any dog breed and make a great family pet for experienced dog owners. With our help these great dogs get a second chance. Through a community network of volunteers we save as many of these loveable dogs as we can. We provide the appropriate medical care, training and socialisation programs required to rehabilitate and re-home. We also offer ongoing advice and education programs for responsible pet ownership. We do not receive any government funding; therefore, we rely on donations from the community to help pay for food, vet bills and pound release fees. Corrective eye surgery, vaccination, de-sexing, micro-chipping, feeding and training are expensive and we do not recoup these costs when the dogs finally reach their forever homes. Why? Our number one priority is ensuring the breed is loved by many generations to come. An ever-growing community of families touched by Shar Pei Rescue Inc. reinforces our belief that these dogs deserve a second chance. Through education, better breeding practices and a support community for owners and prospective owners, many of these fatal scenarios can be avoided. It was lovely to be recognised for the work we do by winning the 2011 Master Rescuer of the Year award; however, our ambition is to make such a difference that one day the Shar Pei breed will no longer need our protection. It’s been said that bad things happen when good people do nothing and it takes a village to raise a child. Although we’d like to, we know that we can’t save every single animal; but with your help we can make an enormous difference. We can change the lives of the dogs we save and the families that open their arms to a new member of the household. With over 250,000 unwanted dogs and cats put-down in pounds and shelters every year in Australia we need to act now. Through a combined effort we can save many lives. YTD Raised: $0.00Our House is a joint project by Northern Rivers Community Cancer Foundation (NRCCF) and Our Kids. It is a purpose built 20 unit accommodation for cancer patients and their families who are receiving care at the new Cancer Unit at Lismore. It is also provides accommodation for parents who have children in Children Ward or babies in the Special Care Unit at Lismore Base Hospital as well as carers and guests of patient receiving medical care in Lismore. Our House would not have been possible without the amazing support from the Government and the local community who saw the need, rallied together and raised the $5.6 million to complete the build. The funds raised included grants from the Federal Government of $3.6 million, State Government of $1/2 million and Cancer Council of $1/2 million. The Northern Rivers Community raised the final amount of $1 million which included $220,000 from Dry July, $200,000 from the Ballina Shire Combined Services Clubs,$180,000 from the Goonellabah Senior Citizens, $105,000 from Northern Cooperative Meat Company, $101,000 from Newcastle Permanent, $68,000 from Australia Lions Foundation, the Lions Q1 Northern Rivers Community Trust and the Lismore City Lions Club. Not to mention the many community and services clubs, local businesses and individuals who also generously gave to help make Our House a reality. On behalf of guests who are and will stay at Our House thank you to all who helped make this project a beautiful example of what happens when a community works together to fill a need.
