(UK, 1133688) Browse eventsAfrica BEECause was formed in 2009 because we believe that beekeeping has the potential to make a very positive difference to peoples lives. Our mission is to encourage beekeeping in West Africa as a way of improving livelihoods, particularly for the rural poor. We are currently operating in The Gambia as BEECause Gambia and hope that soon we will also be working in Sierra Leone. Beekeeping has the potential to make a very real difference to peoples lives - support and training from BEECause projects will help individuals and communities to improve their economic well-being. Beekeeping is a low tech, relatively low cost activity which is possible in most rural areas and offers the opportunity of additional income. Bee products (honey, beeswax, propolis and royal jelly) are valuable and easily marketable and beekeeping leads to substantial increases in crop yields through improved pollination. Beekeeping also benefits the environment because more pollination means more seeds and more plants, esecially important in environmental regeneration, eg reforestation. We are working - to significantly increase the number of rural people practising beekeeping - to introduce modern techniques and good practice through trials and training - to increase the range of products, yields and product quality of honey and wax - to reduce costs to the producer and prices to the consumer, while maintaining returns - to introduce beekeeping and related education into schools and community groups - to ensure that technical innovation becomes good practice, through training and ongoing support.

Following the immigration movement of the 60’s and 70’s the UK saw an influx of hardworking Sikh men looking for employment. Due to its proximity to Gatwick Airport, the new town of Crawley became home to a large number of Sikh men. After working in Crawley and saving enough money these men called their families over to join them and began a long process of establishing themselves within British life. As a part of the Sikh community in India these families were very involved in practicing the Sikh faith. It was with these principles and desires to continue to practice the Sikh faith that led them to hire the Montefiore Hall in Three Bridges on a weekly basis for the sangat. They then established the first dedicated Sikh Gurdwara in Crawley in 1981 on the current site in Spencers road. As the Sikh community has grown the Gurdwara needs to keep pace with the change and needs of the community. Plans have been designed and approved to refresh the current site and build a new Gurdwara for the community. We call upon not only the Sikh community in Crawley but all people from around the world to help fundraise so we can fulfil the vision of the new Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Crawley.

Leukaemia back in January 2008 at the age of 2 and after just over two long years of intense treatment including chemotherapy she has now been classed as in remission by her specialists. She will be monitored for the rest of her life to ensure this horrible illness does not return and although she is well at the minute she will always be classed as having cancer. Over the course of her treatment we met some very inspirational people who were not only there for us throughout but also tried their hardest to keep life as normal as possible. It is with these people in mind that we set up Neve’s Charities as they all belong to several small charities that most people have not heard of and as such do not fund. Our Charity aims to, not only help fund these people, but also to try and get these charities out in the public domain.
