(US, 232728931) Browse eventsGesu School was founded in 1873 as part of the Jesuit parish belonging to the Church of the Gesu in North Philadelphia. Gesu transitioned to independency in 1993 after the formal closing of the Gesu parish by the archdiocese of Philadelphia. Gesu School serves 450 children, pre-K through 8th grades, from the immediate 19121 neighborhood and five surrounding zip codes. Devoted to its mission, Gesu strives to empower neighborhood children to break cycles of poverty and violence. Gesu educates the whole child, focusing on spiritual and emotional development, character building and academic excellence. Gesu School provides a well-rounded educational approach through specialized programming and innovative resource based curriculums, offering both remedial and advanced support for students. Gesu is firmly grounded in the belief that every child has the right and ability to learn and grow. Gesu accepts students on a first-come, first-served basis without selective admissions. Ninety-nine percent of Gesu students are African American, 36% of families are living below the Federal Poverty Line and 80% of students live with a single adult. Gesu School qualifies for 100% free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch for students and 95% of families receive financial aid. If students attended local public schools instead of Gesu, 98% of them would attend one of the poorest performing public schools in PA. In light of surrounding obstacles, Gesu provides more than an education focused solely on academic advancement; Gesu faculty and staff are committed to serving students based on principles of social justice. The Gesu community is committed to providing unconditional love to students as they navigate many diverse growth opportunities. By providing a safe environment in which faith-based learning can take place, especially through the provision of specialized programming, Gesu School continues to have a profound impact on its neighborhood children. Due to the collective efforts of the ecumenical group of individuals invested in its efforts, Gesu is able to inspire the lives of the students and families it serves. Gesu is a testimony of a work of faith in action; Gesu works!

(UK, 1101423) Browse eventsThe PTA of Hampden Gurney primary school has to actively raise about £30,000 each year to support non-core activities - please help Hampden Gurney to reach their goal!! Hampden Gurney Primary School is facing unprecedented government funding cuts and many non-core activities cannot be funded within their budget. Music and art lessons; the library, both its books and its staffing; student bursaries for clubs and trips; swimming lessons; trips; workshops; sports equipment and up to date IT equipment are not covered by the School's budget and are often paid for either partially or in full by the PTA … without the PTA, there would be no extras….the school would only be able to afford the basics, and good as they are, this would leave a dull and one dimensional education. So… Please help us to ensure that all of these extras are part of our children's day to day school lives. Charity No: 1101423
