International Seafarers' Welfare And Assistance Network (UK, 1102946) Browse events

YTD Raised: £12,994.61

Seafarers, who are responsible for transporting 95% of the world's goods, are frequently overlooked and forgotten about. With the fast turnaround of ship in ports, being on board for 10 months, reduced crew numbers and increased workloads, the lives of seafarers are often tough and hard. Seafarers face long periods away from family and friends with limited or no communication for weeks on end. Shore leave can be severely restricted, particularly for certain nationalities. Welfare facilities and services both onboard and ashore can be a lifeline for seafarers. ISWAN works to support the welfare of seafarers all over the world. We work in support of organisations and bodies that provide direct welfare services to seafarers. We work to enable the establishment of welfare facilities and services in port and on ships. ISWAN also provides direct welfare services to seafarers. The 24 hour multilingual helpline, seafarerhelp, runs every day of the year and is free for seafarers to call from anywhere in the world. ISWAN also runs an emergency welfare fund for seafarers in dire need, produces health information for seafarers, and provides information on the location of seafarer centres.

Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate.Harmeny Education Trust Limited provides care and education to children who’ve had a challenging start in life. They come to us from all over Scotland and are often way behind with their learning. The school provides therapeutic care for the children and also helps them improve vital skills such as literacy, which we know is a ‘passport to life’.  The core costs of care and education at Harmeny are met through local authority fees. However, it is the additional donations, no matter how small, that make all the difference to the children. They provide the “extras” that make life at Harmeny special. We are delighted to have launched a major capital appeal, in April 2018, called the Harmeny Learning for Life Appeal. With a target of £2.4 million, we plan to create much needed space and increased opportunities for changing the lives of young people both at Harmeny and from local communities. The Learning for Life Appeal will:build a brand new outdoor centre / learning hubextend two of our residential cottagesdevelop a new skills projectIf you would like to make an individual donation, please click on the ‘Donate Now’ button. If you are interested in developing a corporate partnership with a highly regarded charity, find out more on the Volunteering page of our website. Please donate to support our cause and help make a real difference to the lives of some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children.  With your help, we can help them rediscover how to be children – to play, make friends, and develop skills for life and learning. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue CIO (UK, 1160504) Browse events

YTD Raised: £12,962.11

Ogwen Valley is the most northerly of the main valleys in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, UK. The mountains that surround the valley are about 1000 metres high and the terrain varies quite considerably. With eleven of the Welsh 3000-feet peaks and cliffs that reach about 300-400 metres in height our area is very popular with both walkers and climbers. The Carneddau mountains to the north of our base at Bryn Poeth (Oggie Base) are high and open, but there is also open moorland with heather, bracken and sheep, as well as areas of dense forest and fast rivers around Capel Curig. This mixture of terrain calls for the team members to be competent in high angle rescue work as well as open terrain search and swift water techniques. As a rescue team we now have over 100 callouts per year. There are approximately 50 people on the team, all volunteers, many of whom are qualified to a high standard of First Aid. We also have a number of Search Managers and Swift Water Rescue technicians. Although we are completely independent of the Police we work at their request; Team Members are then contacted by telephone or SMS. Our usual response time to an incident is typically 20 minutes before deploying someone on to the hill and a full team callout can be effected within 30 minutes.
