(UK, 1037022) Browse eventsWoodlands School accommodates up to 76 children with physical and sensory difficulties between the ages of 2 and 19 years. Many pupils have additional medical and other difficulties that may affect their learning. The school is a resource which serves the whole of the South West peninsula; pupils come from Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall to learn and develop their skills. The school has a wide range of specialist facilities and therapies on site such as hydrotherapy, dark and white sensory rooms, a creative arts room and highly trained staff capable of meeting a wide range of needs. Friends of Woodlands is a registered charity, whose aim is to raise funds to enable the school to purchase items which it would otherwise not be able to afford through normal funding. Such items range from sensory equipment to arts and music equipment, in fact, anything which enhances the lives and learning skills of the pupils. The Charity also funds activity days in the school holidays to allow parents and siblings of disabled pupils time for themselves. In the last year, Friends have financed new blinds for the hydrotherapy pool to help with the visually impaired pupils experience, and a floor-based walking piano, enabling wheelchair bound children to make music for themselves.

We raise money so that the 620 children who attend Salusbury Primary School can have a really great start in life. These children come from many cultures and backgrounds. We need to raise money to give them the things that they don't get enough of. Currently, this means giving them a lot more access to sport, outdoor activities and music. We work closely with the teachers and children to find out what would make the biggest difference to children's learning environment. They told us they needed a library, and we built one from scratch. Now, you can help us do far more!
