The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is one of the country's foremost education and conservation charities. Founded in 1909, our aims are "To inspire and excite our visitors with the wonder of living animals, and so to promote the conservation of threatened species and habitats. The Society runs both the Edinburgh Zoo and The Highland Wildlife Park. *** As an independent Scottish charity, we receive no core funding from local or national government and so must raise funds through commercial income and philanthropic support. Edinburgh Zoo is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. With almost 1,000 wild animals to see and over 80 acres of beautiful parkland, the Zoo offers a fantastic day out. Based at Kincraig near Aviemore, the Highland Wildlife Park is more of an experience than a visitor attraction. Discover the amazing variety of wildlife found in present day Scotland such as the pine marten, wildcat and capercaillie. Then step back in time and meet the creatures that used to roam over the country - lynx, wolves and reindeer.
