The School was established in 1886 through the generosity and philanthropic support of the school’s founders and is set in 50 acres of parkland in the centre of Cheltenham. The School provides an education for children based firmly on Christian values and visitors regularly comment on the atmosphere, saying how warm and friendly they find it. It is felt that this positive environment can be attributed directly to the Christian heart and principles of the School. Dean Close provides assistance towards the education of children of parents of limited means who would benefit from such an education. The School plans to further expand community access to its facilities and resources by widening access to the School, particularly among the wider community and by continuing to develop the School's Community Action Programme. Dean Close aims to foster the friendships of the School community, including pupils, parents, staff, governors, alumni and friends of the school - anyone for whom the school is, or has been, an important part of their lives."

Having migrated to the UK from India, via East Africa in the 1960s, they saw the power of education in driving their children to successful and happy lifestyles. They sought to replicate these opportunities amongst poor children constrained by poverty via The Bhardwaj Trust. The funds of the Trust, raised through the generosity of contributions from friends and family, have helped many children over the years to achieve and education, get a good living, and help to bring their families out of a poor living. The administrative expenses in running the Trust are borne privately by the Trustees and all the funds raised go towards the objects of The Bhardwaj Trust.
